4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 15/20
Insane oaky aroma of vanilla, cedar and slight cocoa and candy. Heavy on the tongue, a bit malty with a sticky sweetness balanced somewhat with the heavy vanilla and cedar. Quite an awesome brew and lucky to sample this batch

2.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 2/5 OVERALL 7/20
Bottle thanks to somebody, rating from my backlog. The look is cloudy, ok off white head, and orange in color. The smell is sugar, fruits, apple juice, caramel, and more sweetness. The taste is very sugary, under attenuated. Not good a sugary mess.

I do not detect a hop presence. Malty, sweet, syrupy, raisins, brown sugar, more sweetness. Tastes like a blend of orange soda and prune juice.

Bottled. Has a great amount of alcohol and some sweetness to it. Malt, cedar, caramel, vanilla. The hops is not that noticeable. I personally love this beer.

Raiting #4000, thanks to Stobbe74 for sharing. Pours cloudy copper with a beige head. Aroma is caramel, dried fruit, alcohol, peach and grapefruit. Flavour is caramel, alcohol, dried fruit, peach, grapefruit and citrus. Smooth and extremely well balanced. Imperial IPA meets Barley Wine. Nice.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Pours an unclear and dark copper beer with an offwhite/orange head. The aroma is malt, fruit, dried fruit, alcohol, wood, vanilla, caramel and hops. The flavor follows the nose with additional grapefruit and citrus. The palate is smooth with sweetness and some bitterness. Overall a really good and complex beer.

1.3 AROMA 3/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 2/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 4/20
Shared at my tasting on August 7, 2010. Thanks to whoever brought it!
A: Slight hazy orange-ish hue. Medium-small sized head that leaves a few traces of lacing on the glass.
S: This is NOT an IPA. Not by any standards. Heavy malt, little to no hop presence.
T: The taste is even more disappointing than the aroma. The beer is way too sweet, with no hops, citrus, floral, or anything else that might be used as a descriptor of a tasty American DIPA. As far as style, this beer gets a WTF rating. There is nothing right about this beer and everything wrong. The taste is odd, off, and overly sweet. The flavor is more like a barleywine gone wrong than anything. Ick...
M: Cloying from the first drop. Awful.
D: I’m grateful for the opportunity to have tried this beer, as I was really looking forward to it. However, it was plain awful. Drain, meet beer.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle. Moderate to heavy roasted, caramel and cookie for the malt, moderate cooked orange for the hops, light dough and broth for the yeast, with date and brown sugar in the background. Head is small, fizzy/frothy light beige with no lacing but good legs and is mostly diminishing. Color is hazy amber orange. Flavor starts moderately to heavily sweet, lightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet, lightly acidic and light to moderately bitter. Palate is medium to full, oily with a soft carbonation. A little short on acidity and a little too sweet for a DIPA, but this is still an excellent beer.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
14th August 2010
Cloudy amber beer. Little suddy white head. Marmalade hop nose. Softish palate, a little syrupy. Moderate carbonation. Rich marmalade orange and grapefruit hops, not that bitter but with loads of depth. Spicy. Good malt base, juicy toffee caramel. Finishes with well integrated aniseed alcohol. Lingering spicy aftertaste. Very drinkable and very moorish. As much barleywine as DIPA. Sumptuous.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
From notes. First reviewed 6/19/2010. Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a tulip.
Out of the bottle, the pour is a cloudy amber color, with touches of copper around the edges. A fluffly white head gradually subsides and leaves a thin layer and a ring around the glass. Some sticky lace reminds me of where this beer has been.
Very aromatic. Strong toffee malt notes. Grapefruit, pineapple, and apricot citrus aroma, some herbal notes in the nose as well.
The flavor starts and stays sweet the whole way through, but not cloying at all. Toffee and a bit of honey provide the steady sweet malt presence. A great variety of pineapple, grapefruit, herbal, and pine hops. The pine blends with a cedar, aged flavor, which helps close out the taste amazingly well. The aftertaste is reminiscent of the hop varieties, but a soft sweetness is also present. Huge taste.
Strong creamy feel, it is actually creamier than the medium carbonation would let on. Lots of hop oil residue. Very smooth.
I absolutely loved this the first time I had it, maybe a little bit less in subsequent bottles. Even though I normally connect with west coast hop bombs, I enjoyed this huge, sweet, fruity DIPA.
