4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle. Moderate to heavy roasted and caramel for the malt, pine for the hops, moderate dough for the yeast, with grape, raisin, fig, wood, boozy-alcohol and faint spice in the background. Head is small, frothy turning creamy, light tan with a touch of red, with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is clear mahogany. Flavor starts moderately to heavily sweet and lightly acidic, then finishes moderately sweet with a long bitter end. Palate is on the fuller side of medium, oily with a soft carbonation and a lightly alcoholic finish. Perfect balance in this American Strong Ale, and it’s tasty all the through. An awesome beer.

4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
barely translucent reddish mahogany with a thick tan head; sticky and creamy full body with medium-high carbonation.
aroma: resinous leafy piney hops, caramel chocolate roasty malt.
taste: sweet sticky leafy resinous hops, caramel roasty malt. very intense but fairly well balanced. alcohol is well hidden.
if hops grew on trees, and you could tap those trees to get hop tree sap, and boil it down to a sweet syrup, this is how i imagine it would taste.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
The aroma is very sweet and alcoholic, fruity, floral, metallic, woody, malty, and piny. The appearance is deep amber with a large tan head. The taste is like the aroma with a bitter caramel like finish. The palate is typical for the style. Overall a good beer but the astringency is an issue for me.

3.6 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Pours ruby tinted brown, foaming tan head, thick and appealing lacing. Aroma was reminiscent of a nice barleywine. Rich fruits (peach, dates, pineapple), molasses, toffee, toasted coconut, and a skirting of spicy resiny hops. Soft and full mouthfeel, lightly sweet up front with some cocoa, a metallic middle and finish that is fully bitter with some mild astringency, only light alcohol notes. Only wish this had a little more of a rounded fruity malt flavor...its not exactly dry but not malty enough. Hop flavors begin to dominate, spicy and sweaty, a little cheesy. Promising beginning.

3.1 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Aroma: super malty and sweet, lots of caramel, toasty and a bit of chocolate, dark sugars and ripe fruit, citrus hops. Pours deep, opaque red, tan head with great retention and lots of lacing. Flavor is malt-heavy, quite a massive dose of caramel, some fruit and chocolate, also pretty sweet and syrupy. Fairly bitter with plenty of citrus hop character, a lot of grapefruit, some pine. Nice flavor, just a bit overkill on the sweetness for my taste. Very full body, syrupy and sweet, medium carbonation.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Thanks Matt for sending this one out. A pour from a 750 ml. gave a deep reddish color with some light head. Aromas were of some citrus and sugar. Smooth and full bodied in your mouth with a tad bit of carbonation. Flavors were very good with dark cherry, sweet crystal malt, bitter earthy hops. Slight resinous character also to this beer. Good long finish of the afore mentioned flavors. A good imperial red for sure if you are into this style.

2.4 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 4/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 9/20
Appearance - Pours a dark brown into a snifter. Aggressive pour produces about one finger of head. Super sticky head that sticks to the sides of the glass for a long time as it is swirled around.
Smell - Not impressed. A sweet malt smell that is ruined by burnt oats or coffee beans. At this point was really hoping not to relive my World Wide Stout experience.
Taste - Not impressed. Just another cookie cutter malt taste that could have had something going with the sweet tinge at the end of the sip if it weren’t ruined by that burnt nut/coffee taste at the end.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with some hidden carbonation coming to life in the mouth. Sticks to the insides of the mouth and to the epithelial lining of the throat as it makes its way down.
Overall - I am really trying to support my hometown brewery here, but so far I have had two forgettable brews from Cigar City. 110k and Jai Alai are not anywhere near the best beers in their respective categories and are not beers that I would like to try on a regular basis.
