3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Appearance : Deep amber with small head.
Aroma : Caramel with light brown sugars. Light hops.
Taste : Caramel, brown sugars. Dry finish with caramel and some butterscotch. Light hops.
Overall : Fairly simple and straight forward. Nice caramel but a bit too dry especially for a Scotch Ale.

3.2 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
750ml bottle from smith4498, thanks Jason! Pours a deep brown colored body with a bit of a ruby hue. Inch thick, foamy and frothy, brown head that dissipates slowly and leaves a nice lacing. Aroma is pretty malty sweet with a good amount of raisin, cherry, berry fruits. Some deep caramels and toffees, a light toast, and a touch of chocolate with a bit of a clove and phenolic, spicy yeast. Flavor is malty sweet with deep caramels and toffees as well as plenty of dark fruits. Lots of raisins with some cherry and a light berry note. Some spicy yeast with a light clove, smoke, and pepper in the middle before some chocolate comes out with a light biscuit and light roast. Finishes fairly dry from the roast and yeasty spice, but pretty sweet from all the caramel, dark fruits, and light chocolate. Lengthy aftertaste following a smooth, medium-full body and a somewhat lively carbonation. Overall, this was okay, but I wasn’t the biggest fan of it. Pretty sweet with lots of dark fruit, caramel, and a light chocolate balanced with a Belgian yeast that never really brought this together for me. I like the light roast towards the end, but this is a hybrid that didn’t really do it for me. Okay.

3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
(Bottle) Pours dark nut brown with a large dark sand coloured/pale brown head. The aroma holds grassy hops, dark caramel, brown sugar, dark syrup, dark bread, roast, anise, touch of smock, bubble-gum, damp basement, wet soil, meat, dark fruit (plums and prunes) and some light fruits (pears). Too much alcohol on the nose. The flavour is light sweet, light to medium bitter and light acidic with notes of anise, liquorice, coffee, dark chocolate, dark caramel, light smoke, dark bread, grassy hops, light funky yeast, touch of fruits, grapes and phenols. The mouthfeel is round, fairly soft and a bit numbing (from the alcohol) with a light carbonation. Funky, light fruity, grassy, nutty, brown sugary and spicy/phenolic yeasty finish. Medium bodied.

4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
A - Pours a murky brown with a bit of mahogany around the edges and a finger of thick frothy tan-brown head. The head fades down very slowly leaving behind some nice lacing.
S - Aroma is a mix of sweet toasted caramel and toffee malts with some raisin and dark fruits with a bit of yeast and booze.
T - Starts off with a mix of sweet toasted caramel and toffee malts with some plum, raisin, and other dark fruit sweetness. Through the middle, some yeast flavor comes through with some caramelized flavor. The finish is a mix of caramelized malts, with some dark fruit and yeast flavor, and a bit of booze.
M - Medium-full bodied with moderate carbonation. Feels smooth and a touch syrupy with a warming and sweet finish.
D - Very drinkable. Nice scotch ale. Good rich and bold malt profile with good body and balance.

3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Bottle shared by mdfb79. Thanks Dan.
The beer is a dark, chestnut brown hue with an inch of dense, beige head that leaves a nice sheet of lacing on the snifter. The aroma brings a light smokiness, toffee, malt, dark fruits. Some raisin notes in the flavor with hints of chocolate. Smoky notes balance the sweetness from dark fruit and chocolate. Medium bodied. Lingering aftertaste of sweet malt and dark fruits. A bit sweet to drink more than a snifter. A great beer for sharing with a few folks.
