Appearance: pitch and ash and burnt wood. A tan head bubbly and thick fades into a solid collar bordering a thin layer of tan. Swirls thick.
Nose: dark fruit stones with some random bits of flesh still attached – dry, nutty, and slightly meaty. Tart chocolates and bitter chocolates. Dry twigs and sticks and bark starts in the middle and finishes in the back – like the remains of a charred forest, black and brittle, and still smoldering slightly in spots. Rounds out with meaty prunes and dates, dried of course.
Palate: chewy with tartness along the edges followed by meaty rich dark fruits. Dry finish of leather and fruit stones. Bakers chocolate in the breath. Tartness and leather lingers on the top of my tongue. Plums. Smoke joins the chocolate in the breath. Overall surprisingly parching and thirst-inducing. Hint of spice is a whisper amongst the winds with cumin and ginger.
Final Thoughts: an intriguing take on the scotch ale style brewed at Cigar City Brewing in partnership with Dunedin Brewery out of Dunedin, Florida. Ah, how I love the craft beer community, let me count the ways… One sip, two sip, three. May I have another please?

Bottle. Pours dark brown with a thin tan head. Aroma of caramel, roasted malt, dark fruit. Good flavor, similar to the aroma.

Bottle @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration, 2012. Almost black with small beige head. Aroma is light roasted malts, dried fruits, yeast, hops, fruit and a little toffee. Flavour is light roasted malts, dried fruits, yeast, hops, fruit, caramel, toffee, chocolate and a little bitter.

Bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a fast disappearing off-white head. Has a slightly roasted malty spicy toffee and caramel aroma. Dry roasted malty spicy caramel flavor with weak yeasty hints. Has a roasted malty spicy toffee and caramel finish.

Tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration, 2012. Pours dark brown with a small tan head. Aroma of roasted malt, caramel, peat, plums, earth. Taste is sweet malty, caramel, earthy notes, oak, peat, little dark fruits. Medium body, lively bordering to aggressive carbonation. 110512

CBC. lmost black with a beige head. Aroma is sweet, malty, caramel, roasted malt, dried fruit and yeasty. Flavor is quite sweet and moderate bitter. Dry and moderate bitter finish. 110512

Bottled. A black beer. The aroma has notes of spices, wood, and caramel, as well as a lighter note of brettanomyces. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, caramel, and wood, leading to a dry woody finish.

750mL bottle, pours a dark amber brown with a medium tan head. Aroma is dark fruits, caramel malts, some whiskey notes, and slight alcohol. Flavour of chocolate, caramel, figs and dates, whiskey and slight booze. Complex and full-bodied - perfect mix of flavours. Awesome brew.

On tap at CBC, Copenhagen. Opaque black - brown beer, small tan head. Light dry palate. Mild dark malt, dry. A little spice. Okay.

Copenhagen Beer Celebration, 2012. Pours black with a creamy head and lacings. Toffee, roast and dark fruit. Smooth and full bodied. Nice.

75 cl bottle. Pours dark brown with a fully gone head. Aroma is roasted and dry caramelish. Light yeasty. Roasted malty and caamelish. Bitter and toasted into a dry finish.
