3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 otakuden (1616) - Vero Beach, Alabama, USA - JAN 31, 2011Appearance: hazy oranges with a touch of amber here and there. White head fades fast, lingering as a broken collar while a film in the middle resembles a spill. Solid haze all around gives it an almost ethereal appearance.
Nose: spice, heat, vanilla, meringue, powdered sugar. Def can tell the heat from his higher ABV which magically rides the border between too much and too little. White table crackers and melba in the back. Crunchy cooked and cooled sweetness. Vanilla cream resembles the vanilla cream filling found in vanilla cream cookies. Dry spice abounds, complimenting the heat and the crunch. Apple skins and cinnamon.
Palate: sweet and sticky up front, then smooth, then grows dry and lovely. Creaminess leads to spice to dry to chest glowing warmth. Apple skins and caramel melt into aged rums and fine brandy, mulled if you please. Sticky lips; caramel and vanilla cream. Melba, bread crust, white table crackers underneath. Cinnamon sticks. Vanilla in the breath with a puff of powdered sugar. Quaffable.
Final Thoughts: a standard cream ale is hard enough to find as it is, so a double cream ale is a rare beast. Leave it to Cigar City though to take a classic misunderstood beer, amp it up, and make it taste so darn good. Simple and complex at the same time, soothing and appetizing. A winner all around.

750ml bottle that I picked up at some point on Hunahpu day (so... no idea where I got it). Yellow-gold pour with thin white head. Aroma is cider, grain, dough, grapefruit. Tastes are caramel, honey, floral, candied sugar, light pepper and spices, little acidity, citrus. Feels boozy, but covers it well in the taste. Leaves a soapy acidic vibe. Overall, better than I expected (not sure why I wasn’t expecting much w/ CC - guess it was the cream ale in the title).
3.6 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20 Aniela (1490) - Skövde, SWEDEN - JAN 29, 2013
Draught at the Pony Bars Cigar City Event NYC sept 2012. Clear amber beer with a white small head. Fruity and honey aroma. Fruity, honey and maybe some vanilla notes flavour.
3.3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 mcberko (4056) - Vancouver, British Columbia, CANADA - JAN 20, 2013
750mL bottle, sent from LateStart (thanks Jordan), pours a hazy golden orange with a small white head. Aroma of iced tea, some earthy notes, and a little sweetness. Flavour brings out notes of iced tea, earthy hops, a little sweetness and some light alcohol notes. Quite full-bodied and flavourful for a cream ale, with all notes in harmony. Very enjoyable for a style I’m not usually fond of.
3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20 5000 (4974) - Hardened Liver, Washington, USA - JAN 6, 2013
Bottle: Amberish, thin white sudsy head, little lacing. Mealy nose, somewhat of a sweet melon. Mealy start, malty, fruity, big melon notes. Similar on the tongue. A bit sticky and very bready. Moderate body and mouthfeel. Mealy and fruity finish. Not sure what to make of this one. Certainly a sweet malty beer, fruity, with lots of melon. Okay I guess, but almost too much at first.

From the bottle. This was pretty good for a cream ale. Flavors of butterscotch, caramel, cream. Almost like drinking a cream soda with vanilla added.

Bottle. Very light tangerine and alcohol aroma, but not much else. Cloudy amber with a large off-white head, thick lacing. Weird bittersweet malt flavor. Medium body. After repeated disappointment with Cigar City, I think I’m done trying their beers.
