750ml bottle pours a translucent, caramel brown with very little creamy beige head. Aroma is vanilla, butterscotch, apples, pears. Flavor is sweet, caramel, butterscotch. Missing the peat of a Scotch ale. Full bodied, sweet finish.

UPDATED: FEB 19, 2015 Bottle courtesy of ryan - thanks! Muddy, chunky brown, edge head, no lacing. Aroma of alcohol, chocolate. Taste is sweet butterscotch and chocolate. Too light bodied, too sweet, especilay for a BA. 8-4-7-3-13-3.5.

UPDATED: APR 26, 2010 4/5/2010: 750mL courtesy of ryan. Pours a muddy brown/amber with a thin yellow head that leaves spotty lace. Aroma is toffee, caramel, raisin, not too much barrel. Taste is loaded with sweet toffee, gold raisins. No complexity added from the barrel and the aging has probably done this more harm than good. Still a little boozy somehow. 7/4/7/3/13
4/25/2010:Re-rate from my own cellared bottle (27/246). Aroma is definitely bourbon- though muted- it is very soft, full of vanilla, coconut, butter. Taste is rich, well balanced, malty, raisins, prunes, chocolate. 8/4/8/4/15

Bottled shared by ryan, opened a day earlier. Murky brown pour with little carbonation (probably a result of it being open for a day). Slight whiskey aroma with licorice notes. Malty flavor with bitter coffee and earth. Some chocolate. Very harsh finish.

3.1 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 1/5 OVERALL 13/20
Dark, opaque brown pour. Smells like sweet fruit, cherry peels, and a touch of alcohol. Taste starts off alright, with a standard scotch ale flavor, some wood, bourbon, and malt. But it all falls apart in the finish, an incredibly bitter an astringent flavor comes out of nowhere.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
UPDATED: APR 6, 2010 Nose is pretty light, almost no bourbon, some caramel and dark fruit. The taste is very sweet, tons of dark fruit, bourbon, some citrus hops. Way too much specialty malt, way too sweet, the yeast is very stressed and phenolic. The bourbon character is very subdued.

Bottle 101 of 246 shared by daknole @ Hellbilly’s. THANKS DAK!!! Burnt caramel pour with a khaki head. Nose is mostly ash with lots of char and smoke included. Flavor shows some of the bourbon but also adds vanilla, peat, and dark fruit.

UPDATED: DEC 28, 2011 Had at RBWG 2010. The aroma is lots of bourbon barrel with plenty of sweet brown sugar and all that.
Re-Rate 12/28/11. 750mL bottle from the release. Huge barrel aroma with lots of coconut, vanilla, wood, and a bit of butter. Nice flavor as well with caramel, fudge, bourbon, a bit of alcohol, and lots of vanilla and coconut. Score remains. Tasty shit.

Great bourbon barrel aroma. Hints of smoke and caramel. Fairly dry, perhaps a bit more that the regular Big Sound. Nicely balanced, the barrel doesn’t take over the flavor entirely.
