COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Big Sound Scotch Ale is dedicated to our good buddy Gino, the most punk rock bagpiper youíll ever meet, and the rest of the men and women of Tampa Bay Pipes and Drums. Brown in color, Big Sound has huge notes of dark sweet toffee with underlying mild notes of coffee in the aroma. The flavor starts with a slight note of cherry and then opens into a Goliath of a malt character with notes of dark sweet toffee, slight hints of coffee and mild notes of toasted bread in the finish. Big Sound Scotch Ale pairs well with Haggis, Highland Games, Huge Heads and Enormous Pillows and of course Bagpipe music.

Bottle. Big thanks to Matt for sending this one to me on my first fatherís day, shared with my father-in-law - who is also a big scotch ale fan. Very smooth malty body, heavy but not thick. The flavor seemed to soak into my taste buds with a great palate of smoke malt and hops. This is extremely easy to drink.

Appearance: Pours a midnight, reddish brown. Starts out with a big frothy head that subsides to a quarty inch of tan froth. Aroma: Peaty malt, cocoa-cola, resinous earthy hops, vanilla, old medicine chest and oiled leather. Finishes very roasty and semi-sweet. Taste: Bitter cocoa, woody booze, fresh made drip coffee, earth, and spicy hops. Mouthfeel: Full bodied, not thick or syrupy what-so-ever. Overall: A unbelievable Wee Heavy, now in my top 3 (Alesmith, Great Divide being the others). Big complex, but not overdone and not underwhelming.

Source:Sample from a 750 mL bottle shared at a Nashville tasting.
Glass:Taster.
Appearance:Hazy brown pour with red highlights and a one finger off white head.
Aroma:Roasted malt, nuts, smoke and spices.
Flavor:Sweet caramel base with dark fruits, smoke and a hint of nuts.
Palate:Medium/full body with solid carbonation.
Overall:This doesnít compete with some of the excellent Scotch Ales out there, but it is definitely a good example.

Bottle from TheCheeseMan. First CCB brew. Pours an almost black brown with minimal head. The aroma is malty, minty, spicy and smoky. Big, sweet malt flavor, mild smoke and peat and a minor hop balance. Some fruitiness, but mostly slick, oily malts. A solid scotch ale, up among the best Iíve had, though not in contention with Alesmithís.

750mL bottle, no date--though from 2009--from daknole--thank you much! Clear dark brown with a small light brown head, decent retention. Caramel and bready toasted malts up front in the aroma, with some light roast and vanilla behind. Not picking up on any peat thus far, but I know it isnít necessary, and this beer is just fine without it. Flavor has a little more roasted malts to it, though still plenty of the caramel and toasted malts to go around. Some warming notes hint to the alcohol strength in the dry roasty finish, bitterness around a 2. Full body with light to moderate creamy carbonation. Excellent Scotch ale.

750mL Bottle. Nice, deep caramel and toast malt. Burnt sugars, raisins, and creme. Wondeful malt profile. Pours a beautiful dark brown and red, with a creamy off-white. Flavors are good. Thereís concentrated burnt sugars to the point that amines pile up into a near ureaic character, which isnít necessarily a bad thing. Almost a bit of smoke edge. Wonderfully malted, not too alcholic, and not too sticky. Very nice Scotch.
