Sep 19, 2009 Bottle courtesy of ericandersnavy. Pretty ruby pour. Lovely sweet malt aroma. A bit heavy. Some chocolate feel with a heavier feel. Pretty tasty scotch that finishes easy.

Sep 17, 2009 750ml bottle. Dense texture, rich dark coffee colored body with a toffee colored head. First impression of the nose is worrisome: metal and grapefruit, isovaleric acid once again. A little aeration and swirling and oxygenating in the glass and the iso acid character mostly disappears from the nose and seems completely gone flavor-wise. Malt structure is firm and full but also somewhat syrupy. Hop presence is minimal. Toffee and scotch-flavored malts get better as the glass warms and my palate acclimates. Good stuff all around, a little worrisome at the beginning but I can see why this one gets so much praise.

Sep 17, 2009 9th Richmond RB Gathering, courtesy of dkachur. Dark fruits, raisin roast chocolate in aroma. Clear very dark amber brown with little head. Flavor has big roastyness with chocolate and moderate grain astringency. Finish is malty with moderate residual bitterness.

Pours a deep mahogany with an autumn spice (nutmeg, pumpkin, cinammon) chunk soaked in peat syrup. Flavor is full, bragging peat sugar, peat syrup, and peat-soaked malt. Thick, gooey, slick, and oily mouthfeel. A very assertive yet approachable scotch ale. Definite repeat.

Sep 12, 2009 Richmond 9th Gathering, courtesy of dkachur. Deep brown, nice head. Big molasses and toffee aroma. Flavor is dark fruit, more massive molasses malts, toffee, faint chocolate. Big, complex, rich flavor. Really nice.
