Commercial Description:
Big Sound Scotch Ale is dedicated to our good buddy Gino, the most punk rock bagpiper you’ll ever meet, and the rest of the men and women of Tampa Bay Pipes and Drums. Brown in color, Big Sound has huge notes of dark sweet toffee with underlying mild notes of coffee in the aroma. The flavor starts with a slight note of cherry and then opens into a Goliath of a malt character with notes of dark sweet toffee, slight hints of coffee and mild notes of toasted bread in the finish. Big Sound Scotch Ale pairs well with Haggis, Highland Games, Huge Heads and Enormous Pillows and of course Bagpipe music.

A little roasted malt on the aroma. A bit of cherry as advertised and a sweet malty finish. Roasted finish.

Bottle courtesy of ericandersnavy. Pretty ruby pour. Lovely sweet malt aroma. A bit heavy. Some chocolate feel with a heavier feel. Pretty tasty scotch that finishes easy.

750ml bottle. Dense texture, rich dark coffee colored body with a toffee colored head. First impression of the nose is worrisome: metal and grapefruit, isovaleric acid once again. A little aeration and swirling and oxygenating in the glass and the iso acid character mostly disappears from the nose and seems completely gone flavor-wise. Malt structure is firm and full but also somewhat syrupy. Hop presence is minimal. Toffee and scotch-flavored malts get better as the glass warms and my palate acclimates. Good stuff all around, a little worrisome at the beginning but I can see why this one gets so much praise.

9th Richmond RB Gathering, courtesy of dkachur. Dark fruits, raisin roast chocolate in aroma. Clear very dark amber brown with little head. Flavor has big roastyness with chocolate and moderate grain astringency. Finish is malty with moderate residual bitterness.

It’s sweet. It’s bright. It’s a swirling cacophony of toffee, coffee and autumn spices. It is full bodied beer with a smooth and mellow after taste

Bottle from GodOfThunder. Thanks, J!
Pours a deep mahogany with an autumn spice (nutmeg, pumpkin, cinammon) chunk soaked in peat syrup. Flavor is full, bragging peat sugar, peat syrup, and peat-soaked malt. Thick, gooey, slick, and oily mouthfeel. A very assertive yet approachable scotch ale. Definite repeat.

Richmond 9th Gathering, courtesy of dkachur. Deep brown, nice head. Big molasses and toffee aroma. Flavor is dark fruit, more massive molasses malts, toffee, faint chocolate. Big, complex, rich flavor. Really nice.
