750 Ml Bottle from Secret Santa-Mahogany pour w/a moderate tan head. Malty aroma. Strong malt flavor w/caramel, toffee, some chocolate, maybe a touch of cherry, & some yeast/bread dough. Pretty potent stuff, very malty, Classic Scotch Ale. Long malt finish.

Bottle, burnt caramel pour. Sweet maltiness in both flavor and aroma. Boozy, sticky sweetness, flavorful. Seemed more barley wine than scotch. Enjoyable.

Pours a mahogany color with a fine bubbly head, about 2-3 fingers high. Nose is caramel, toffee, biscuit. Way too sweet, almost sickly sweet. Over the top brown sugar. Not great.

Bottle. Dark woody brown with a brown head. Sweet malty aroma. Flavour is dates and plums. Toffee sweet without overpowering. A slightly chocolatey body with some coffee too. Really good.

Had this at the Buffalo Beer Geek’s first tasting event at Cole’s. Too sweet for me. Dark brown in color, aroma of coffee but I didn’t taste coffee only sweet toffee.

0.75l bottle from beermerchants.com This one pours a deep deep dark brown body and it has a small but intense bubbly and sidesticking dark woody-brown head. It smells really intense and somewhat dark-caramel sweet with lots of woody and chocolate tones, some clear red dried fruity tones as well and perhaps also a tone of cold coffee. Flavors are quite out there on the sweet side, perhaps a bit to far out if you ask me, but it still manages to feel somewhat balanced. A soft to average carbonation level and the texture feels sticky and thick in the mouth. Toffee caramel with berries and red-alcohol is clearly dominating, but there are also tones of cold coffee, chocolate, wood and candy. Yeah, I liked it, but perhaps just a tad to sweet for my tongue? Anyhow a great sipper (it took a while to sip a 0.75l bottle) 06.05.2012

750mL bottle, pours a deep dark brown with a reddish tinge and a small tan head. Aroma is very deep, with scotch, wood, toffee and caramel malts, and some dark fruits. Flavour is quite sweet, with toffee, sweet caramel and lots of sweet dark cherries. Not much of the scotch on the flavour, just a lot of rich caramel and highly sweet notes without being cloying. Very enjoyable slow sipper.

Originally reviewed: 6/14/09. Poured into my pint glass a very thick dark brown with slight ruby tints on the edges. There was a decent amount of tan head on there, but this left little to no lacing. Disappointing there. Smells of fresh bread, big toffee, caramel, and booze.
Mouthfeel is decent with a medium amount of carbonation. Slightly slick, but not bad. This is the maltiest malt-bomb ever! Huge brown sugar, molasses, caramel, toffee, pumpernickel all over this beer! Finishes slightly chalky and drying. This is a very good Scotch Ale. Probably the best I’ve had. Highly recommend.
