3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark borwn body with a tan head that leaves behind little lacing. It smells a bit roasty amd chocolatly with hints of a yeasty sour smell. It tastes bitter up front with a lightly sweet lingering aftertaste. Its a medium bodied beer witha moderate carbonation level with a long roasty finish. Overall this is quite a unique beer. It has similarities to some belgian beers and some porters and browns. One I would drink again but not seek out for the price, luckily it was a one off.

Poor is opaque black with thin lightly tan head. Smell is burnt and sweet. Have you ever had slightly burnt caramel popcorn drizzled with almond butter? Well neither have i, but if I did I imagine it would taste just like this beer. Thx DROWLAND.

On draft at Funky Buddha for Cigar City Tap Takeover. Dark color with minimal head. Aroma and flavor had hints of dark chocolate, tobacco, burnt malt, and possibly slight fudge. A little boozy but still pretty easy to handle.

Bottle… Pitch black ale with a mid-sized, frothy, beige head. Good retention. The complex bouquet offers a boatload of chocolate up front, then peripheral notes of smoke, licorice, caramel and clove. Medium-bodied with airy carbonation. The flavor is of chocolate and smoky peppers with hints of clove, peanut butter and licorice. Finishes chocolaty, but sort of falls flat. Interesting and worth a try. Bottle courtesy of biggsbowler!

8/24/11. 12oz bottle. Strange roasted aroma with coffee, caramel, dark fruits, and more, including a bit of vinegar and tartness. Biscuits in the flavor with burnt crackers and burnt popcorn with a touch of vinegar and caramel. This is one odd brew, but the 8% is hidden extremely well.

12 oz bottle. Just noticed this is my 51st rating for CCB! So Johnnie was 50, cool. Dark brown with creamy tan frosting. Nose is chocolate, raisin, sassafras and molasses. Medium body with a lightening fizz. Taste is licorice, fig, coffee, red wine and bitter chocolate. Seems like the caramel note i expect from CCB has dropped out coming off more vinous.

A very unique brew here. Dark roasted malts and a sense of hoppiness. Mix of some light prunes and raisin, but not overpowering. Hard to single in on a style here, but very drinkable.

3.2 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
On tap at the Nook. Pours dark black with red notes. Very little head and no lacing. The aroma is toffee, licorice, smoke and tobacco, and oranges. The flavor is sweet and smoky up front, with a little sourness in the finish. The body is medium to heavy. The mouthfeel is a little astringent, flat and clean. Overall, this is a very interesting beer, but the flavors don’t work very well together.

A gift from OmegaX. Appearance was a very deep red, almost completely black though. The scent was strong of dark chocolate, burnt caramel and alcohol. The taste brought it up a notch; pretty roasty with robust bitter chocolate notes, and finished quite earthy like a porter. The balance was fantastic, very bitter and malty, providing a great coffee-like finish that was bitter. Unique for a strong ale, but great nonetheless.
