COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Whole is a tribute to El Chupa Cobras, a math indie band from Montgomery, Alabama. This effort came about from our realization that craft beer and indie music have something in common… they both share about the same amount of their respectful markets and challenge the consumer. Wayne Wambles, our head brewer, and Kenny Johnson, the front man from El Chupa Cobras, played in indie bands together many years ago and this tribute is for all indie music fans and craft beer lovers. Black Whole is a multidimensional ale that takes many twists and turns similar to our daily lives. It has a big chocolate expression with moderate caramel notes, complex toasted to biscuit notes and hints of clove and black licorice. Don your chocolate mask and discover the meaning of life as you sip this complex, dark beer.

Bottle. Dark brown bear color with small tan head. Smells strong. Lots of carob, acidic chocolate, dark fruit, and booze. Light carbonation but a bit fizzy. Licorice is on the palate, then dark roast, mild acidic coffee, dried cranberry, chocolate cookies that are slightly burnt around the edges. Would benefit from a creamier palate, as it ends up seeming a little tart and even thin, but pretty good overall of course.

bottle. deep brown body with a tan / cocoa colored head. nose of raisin bread, rum, chocolate pastries, plum jam, caramel malt and nugat. high carbonation and effervescence, out of balance for the body, acid and sweetness. cookie raisin rum plum malt-forward taste with mild to medium roast / chocolate / coffee. turns phenolic when warmer and has an unpleasant but mild tartness and dirtiness from the yeast. could use less carbonation, less yeast and more cookie / dark fruit malt which works well with the roast.

Bottle courtesy of Doodler (thanks Scott) poured a clear dark reddish brown with a lasting brown head. Aromas of roastiness, licorice, cola, cocoa and light coffee. Palate was light to medium bodied and crisp. Flavors of roastiness, cola, light licorice, light cocoa and light carmel with a crisp lingering roasty finish.

UPDATED: NOV 1, 2011 Snifter at CCB tasting room. Opaque brown black, thin beige head. Sweet brown sugar/chocolate aroma. Damn, this is a nice beer. Really is the missing link between Porter and Dubbel. Has the drinkable subtlety of both, with the big flavor of both as well. Semi roasty, some dark candi sugar notes as well. Roasty, chalky, with some dark raisiny fruit tones as well. Really nails it. Great beer, highly recommended.

Aroma: chocolate, plums and raisins, rich malts, caramel and slight sweetness, some spiciness. Pours black, thick tan head with great retention, leaves some lacing. Fairly roasty flavor, chocolate and caramel, dark fruits and spicy Belgian yeast notes, moderate bitterness, toasty malts. Medium body, high carbonation.

12oz bottle thanks to jzzbassman! Pours dark brown/black with a huge tan head. Aroma of raisin, chocolate, licorice, clove, coffee, and molasses. Very thick texture, taste of bitter chocolate and coffee balanced nicely with sweet molasses an licorice. Very nice!

12 oz. bottle via trade with smith4498 - Pours a two and a half finger thick tan head. Light lacing. Aroma is caramel and lightly roasted malt. Flavor is roasted malt and coffee with hints of licorice. The malt lingers in the finish. Medium body. When the bottle opened with a big hiss, I was a little worried about possible infection. Not the case. A pretty nice beer. Thanks Jason.
