COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Whole is a tribute to El Chupa Cobras, a math indie band from Montgomery, Alabama. This effort came about from our realization that craft beer and indie music have something in common… they both share about the same amount of their respectful markets and challenge the consumer. Wayne Wambles, our head brewer, and Kenny Johnson, the front man from El Chupa Cobras, played in indie bands together many years ago and this tribute is for all indie music fans and craft beer lovers. Black Whole is a multidimensional ale that takes many twists and turns similar to our daily lives. It has a big chocolate expression with moderate caramel notes, complex toasted to biscuit notes and hints of clove and black licorice. Don your chocolate mask and discover the meaning of life as you sip this complex, dark beer.

Interesting beer. Aroma is earthy, leather, chocolate, soy, and clove. Taste is mostly roastyness with an interesting earthy efforvescence. Taste also has some leathery burnt aspects that are strange but still good.

12oz bottle. picked up a bottle of this at ccb during our visit....pours to the extent of a stout blackness. holding it up to the light yields more dark reddish brown shades while being topped with a rather thick creamy light beige head that reduces down to a thinner level... aroma is somewhat oddball with multiple layers it seems. roast and cocoa upfront, tangy dark fruit accents lay underneath, a little anise with a touch of yeastiness as well... flavors exhibit more of the same with mostly chocolate and roast initially finishes on more of sweet dark fruity tinge with a dry bitterness finishing things up on the backend. nice smooth semi-creamy mouthfeel with a light prickly level of carbonation to round things off.

Samples from several bottles over the course of the GABF weekend. Pours with a black body with a small tan head. Aromas are spicy, rye, nutty, earthy and toasty. Reminds me a good amount of the Bruery’s Rugbrod from the nose. Light anise. Flavors are peppery, a bit spicy, dry and some brown sugar. Medium yeast notes. Moderate bubbles and finishes somewhat dry.

12 ounce bottle thanks to Craig. Pours a dark brown color with a medium brown head. The aroma is sweet cherries and oak. A flavor of light coffee, roast, cocoa, licorice. Even some smoke. Very odd, hard to put down what it exactly is. Quite mellow despite a 8% bill.

Bottle. Dark brown bear color with small tan head. Smells strong. Lots of carob, acidic chocolate, dark fruit, and booze. Light carbonation but a bit fizzy. Licorice is on the palate, then dark roast, mild acidic coffee, dried cranberry, chocolate cookies that are slightly burnt around the edges. Would benefit from a creamier palate, as it ends up seeming a little tart and even thin, but pretty good overall of course.

Pours black with a creamy khaki head. Aroma is roasted malts, chocolate, baked bread, anise and spice. Flavor is rich chocolate, bread and roast. Bitter sweet chocolate finish. Not bad, was expecting a bit more.
