COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Black Whole is a tribute to El Chupa Cobras, a math indie band from Montgomery, Alabama. This effort came about from our realization that craft beer and indie music have something in common… they both share about the same amount of their respectful markets and challenge the consumer. Wayne Wambles, our head brewer, and Kenny Johnson, the front man from El Chupa Cobras, played in indie bands together many years ago and this tribute is for all indie music fans and craft beer lovers. Black Whole is a multidimensional ale that takes many twists and turns similar to our daily lives. It has a big chocolate expression with moderate caramel notes, complex toasted to biscuit notes and hints of clove and black licorice. Don your chocolate mask and discover the meaning of life as you sip this complex, dark beer.

Poured from a 12 oz. bottle into a tulip. The beer does not gush out of the glass, but a huge frothing head nearly overflows the glass, causing me to need to make three attempts before I can pour the whole glass. The head fades to a moderate 1 cm head after a few minutes. As for the beer itself, it close to a black color with walnut brown edges. Roasted malt and dark, bitter chocolate are the main components of the aroma, but Black Whole has a relatively weak smell overall. The flavor has a bit more to it, but it is still fairly flat and mild. Dark, unsweetened chocolate and deeply roasted malt are the first flavors on my tongue. Some smoke, vanilla, and molasses add a bit of depth. The middle and end of the sip simply consists of these flavors continuing, without anything new going on. The finish has a lightly dry bitterness. There is a huge, bubbly carbonation that feels out of place with this style of beer. It has a slightly chalky dryness toward the end of the sip. The body is a little light for the ABV, but it still has a little bit of body to it. This was just too light in flavor and seemed to have a few shortcomings that would prevent me from grabbing this again.

bottle thanks to burg326. Aroma is mostly alcohol upfront with some maltiness. Taste seems a little over carbonated, but the flavor is solid throughout. Didn’t get as much chocolate as the description indicated, but you do get the caramel. It is a complex beer for sure.

12oz. Bottle: Got in trade from biggsbowler; THANKS Randall. Complex aroma of malt yeast, chocolate, cherries, and slight roasting. I do not get "moderate caramel notes, complex toasted to biscuit notes and hints of clove and black licorice." Poured extremely dark brown/black in color with a large, creamy, loose, tan/brown head that diminished but lasted throughout. Opaque. Sparkling. Complex flavor is medium sweet. Tastes of malt, chocolate, yeast, slight caramel, slight licorice, and roasting. Medium body. Sticky, then lightly dry texture. Average carbonation. Malt, chocolate, yeast, finish is sticky and dry. 8%ABV is completely hidden throughout.

Served from bottle into snifter. Slight malty, chocolate aroma. Black, cloudy appearance with a thicky, rocky head. Very sweet taste, chocolate taste. Medium body with a coffee like flavor with a long aftertaste. This beer is excellent. So many flavors come out that it is hard to describe. Definitely a favorite of mine from CCB. Supremely impressed!

12oz bottle courtesy of markwise. It pours dark mahogany with tall almost rocky mocha like head of foam. The aroma offers up some dark fruity esters, tobacco-ee earthiness, black licorice, earthy molasses and some dark roasted coffee. The taste is prickly due to the elevated carbonation levels and delivers dark roasted coffee, molasses, earthy chocolate notes, black licorice and some burnt malts. It ends with lingering dark roasted malts, a bit of burnt malts and a coffee like sensation.

Thanks to burg326 for this one. Bottle to pint. Looks decent; very dark with good head and retention. Smells pretty good; licorice and malt are both noticeable. Tastes good; enjoyable, but lighter in mouthfeel like a lager (although still enjoyable). Overall, a good beer that should be made seasonally (in the Fall).

This poured a medium to darker brown color with a beige head. Aroma was of sweeter chocolate, light roast and some sour cherry notes. Flavor was actually a little bit tart, dark fruits, and sweeter mild chocolate and some roast. A bit muddled and confusing of what this is supposed to be.
