Opens with an impressive percussive pop; carbonation for twenty points. As dark as advertised, but even a gentle pour yields mounds of head; I have to pause twice in the decanting phase of the operation. Uhhohoh. I love Cigar City, but ’infection’ leaps immediately to mind. Smell is lovely with fruit rumors that make continue my suspicions: great roasted malt with cold apples. Black licorice, too. Black Whole is bubblier than a Bieber fan waiting backstage: holy effervescence. Almost champagne-like. Then weird. Roast malts & melted licorice dabble in the New Year’s revelry. The malts are held down by an almost saison-esqueness to the beer, which seems wholly unintended. Advertised chocolate can only be detected with effort & imagination. The mouthfeel is really distracting. Ehhh.

Botella. hazy deep dark brown colour, beige small head. Sweet dark malty caramel sark fruity chocolate aroma. Good mouthfeel. Sweet dark malty close to roasty maltiness in the flavour along with dark fruit, chocolate and also some alcohol. Sweet and bitter finish.

Actually quite dig this one, plummy and fruity, low carb but easy drinking, oily, light floral hop notes, slight alcohol kick, I’m a fan.

12 oz. bottle in a trade with MikeLuke23. Thanks!! Tan head sticks to the side of the snifter, great retention. Dark brown / nearly black color. Cellar temperature gives me aromas of cherries, yeast and chocolate. The taste has a Belgian yeast flavor to go with the chocolate and roasted malts. Coffee notes with hints of licorice. Body is on the thin side. Texture is a light chalk or ash. Did they use a Belgian yeast with this brew? Because it reminds me of a Dubbel or stout. Overall the flavors are decent but what exactly is this trying to be? Not bad at all and the hidden ABV made this pretty easy to drink.

Bottled. A deep red beer with a huge brown head. The aroma has notes of straw, malt, alcohol, and over ripe fruits. The flavor is sweet with notes of malt, over ripe fruites, caramel, alcohol, and wood, leading to a dry alcoholic finish.
