The big bodied ale appeared to be very dense in the glassware and the first taste further explained the commotion around its arrival in my area. It had a very enjoyable taste that one could pick out a variety of stronger ale notes, as the previous rater suggested. The dry chalky aftertaste also reminded me of cocoa bars and I thought a little Partagas cigar might go well with this ale. JCB (1754), Durham, North Carolina, USA

Very handsome pour, almost like a big porter - the kind of robustness one isn’t accustomed to with a "nut brown ale." Smoky, nutty, and dry aroma is just the ticket. Nice big mouthfeel, and flavors of char, chocolate, and roasted nuts. Long papery finish works well. I’d like to try this one again. Odeed (1673), Bakersfield, California, USA

Hazy ruby with a small beige head, fading to a thick ring. Big nutty nose with some coconut and toast. Flavor does have some chocolate in addition to the aforementioned aromas. Dry slightly burnt finish with bitterness around a 3, light alcohol burn. Medium-full body with light to moderate carbonation. Good brown--er, ASA. durhambeer (1206), Durham, USA
| 3.8 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 4/5 | 15/20 | Sep 1, 2009 Bottle shared by Sam. Nice dark brown pour with tan head. Roasty and sweet nose. Mild nuts. Earthy. Tastes adds slight salty aspect. Nice hop addition as well. Better than "Double Nut Brown Ale" made me think it would be. Preferred over the BA version. Bigmmartin (370), Dayton, Ohio, USA

Deep brown with a thick creamy beige that has great retention. Totally inviting. Strong aroma of sweet malts and toffee. Flavor instantly reminded me of one of my other favorite brown ales, Bells Best Brown, but about twice as strong in every area. Strong flavors of sweet malts, bitter chocolate, coffee, and everything roasted and toasted together. However, there is something that sort of turns me off, although just in the slightest. Similar to something I picked up on in the Big Sound also. Nothing really bad, but a little distracting. Still, all in all an excellent brown ale. JoeMcPhee (5000), Jackson Heights, New York, USA

Lots of sweet dark malts with a heavy cocoa character dominating. Chocolate and a touch of herbal tobacco character that really works well in here. Quite malty with a nice sweet toffeeish character in the middle. Intense but approachable with a bit of cedary woodiness as well. A little bit of grainy spice adds yet another layer of complexity. Really, lovely tasty stuff.
