Commercial Description:
Bolita was a type of lottery popular with the working class citizens of the Ybor City district of Tampa. Bolita means, ’little ball’ but profits from the illegal (and often rigged) game were anything but little. In the 1920’s Tampa native Charlie Wall was the undisputed kingpin of the Bolita racket.

Our Bolita is a Double Northern English-style brown ale that has a complex malt forward character with notes of chocolate, toffee and hints of roasted nuts in the finish. Bolita pairs well with Baklava, Big Band Music, Cool Evenings and robust cigars.

750 from Total Wine. Dark brown and hazy with a short head that dissapates to a thin film. Spicy nutty aroma with some funky yeast, coffee and tobacco. Medium body and spritzy with only a slight slickness. Flavor is unusual. Spicy lika a christmas ale with a bitter finish that lingers. Picking up some bitter chocolate and espresso. Overall I had high expectations that were not met. Not worth the $10 or a re-visit. Has alot going on if you search for it but just doesn’t come together well.

Pours a dark hazy brown. Medium off white head with an aggressive pour. Nose heavy with bread. burnt Candy sugar. Dark Berries. Very belgian-ish. Smokey malt flavor. Very sugary sweet. Maybe a hint of banana. Heavy mouth feel, but a thinner body. Prickley carbonation. Not bad. Kind of a strange style. Very filling beer. Style has heavy belgian influence. Again, not a fan of belgians, so I may be rating it lower then it deserves. I did find it way too sweet.

750ml bottle from HOPSHUNTER. Pours a thick dark brown color with a lighter hue towards the bottom of light copper and red. Big foamy beige head, leaves nice lacing on the glass. Palate is full and sticky with a nice burnt finish. Flavor is heavy on nuts and sweet mollasses with a nice dry, hop finish.

Sweet, nutty flavor. More roasted malt, lots of malt, but this beer is far too sweet and it throws everything off. Dark brown, and well carbonated.

The aroma is nutty and sweet with wood and toffee. The appearance is dark brown with a haze and a foamy head. The flavor is like the aroma but its too earthy for me. The palate is smooth. Overall a well made beer that just doesn’t appeal to me.
