Commercial Description:
Bolita was a type of lottery popular with the working class citizens of the Ybor City district of Tampa. Bolita means, ’little ball’ but profits from the illegal (and often rigged) game were anything but little. In the 1920’s Tampa native Charlie Wall was the undisputed kingpin of the Bolita racket.

Our Bolita is a Double Northern English-style brown ale that has a complex malt forward character with notes of chocolate, toffee and hints of roasted nuts in the finish. Bolita pairs well with Baklava, Big Band Music, Cool Evenings and robust cigars.

Bottle from TheCheeseman. Dark brown pour, medium carbonation and rich chocolate and malt aroma. Flavor is roasted malts, a little bit of brown sugar and again some chocolate and vanilla. Slightly woody/smoky finish and very mellow for being a 9% ABV brew. I’m really starting to think cigar city cannot make a bad beer.

750 ml bottle thanks to Dave. Pours a cloudy brown color with a large white head. The aroma is smooth chocolates, toasted malts, nutty and warm. The flavor is very quaffable in complete disagreement with the ABV; rich toasted malts, nuts, chocolate and a great smooth mouthfeel. Nice.

Very very dark brown pour with s thick mocha head. Sweet bready malts in the aroma, with some hazel nut and subtle hops. Flavor is quite malt forward and pretty one dimensional. I’m not as impressed with this beer as I was sbout some of this breweries other offerings,

The aroma is chocolate, hazelnut, bread. Very nice. the appearance is a beuatiful deep mahogany brown, tan head. The flavor is even more chocolate than the aroma implies, tobacco leaves, nuts. The finish is a sweet cocoa, moving into lingering piney hops. Awesome thick, creamy mouthfeel. Excellent representation of the style.

Big chocolatey nose, chewy caramel, tobacco leaf, and hints of hazelnuts and pecan pie. Dark brown color, vaguely hazy, modest head, good lacing. Sweet malts but balanced with a mild acidity, leafiness, nutty. Semi-dry finish for such a big beer! Clean, malt forward. A bit of roast, smoke and coffee but its very mild. Very cool complexity through all the malt, not distracted by an overload of hops, and all in a big balanced beer. Job well done.

Bottle received in a trade with thecheeseman. Thanks Daniel! Nose is roasty, scotch, nutty, and clean. Flavor of roast, chocolate, nuts, char, tobacco. Pretty tasty and not too over the top.
