Nose is chocolate soil, roasty hazelnuts and amaretto, dark coffee. Color is a full brownish black with good brown head. Flavor much the same and comes together very nicely. Like a nuttier version of Pullman that turns out to be sweeter. TampaBrew (805), Tampa, Florida, USA

Flavor is very malty, sweet toasted malts. Lots of bitter chocolate. The mouthfeel is perfect much like everything else they brew. The best brown I’ve ever had. | 4.4 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 5/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Mar 30, 2009 An incredibly tasty brown ale. Pint at the launch party at OTH. Slightly sweet and dark brown. Nice blend of malts to bring out a milk chocolate and toffee, even perhaps hazelnut flavor. Excellent brew! zizzybalubba (369), Elizabeth City, North Carolina, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Sep 17, 2009 750 mL bottle courtesy of Austin (thanks alot!). Dark brown pour with an off-white head. Smoke dominates the aroma with some roasted malts as well. Thick bodied and creamy, this is one smoky beer. Also some chocolate malt flavors can be detected. The label would lead you to believe this is a brown ale but it really is not. This site lists this as an American Strong Ale which is really pretty vague. But at least it isn’t listed as a brown ale. What it really is is delicious. Cigar City does it again. MrBunn (1532), Western, Pennsylvania, USA
| 4.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 8/10 | 4/5 | 9/10 | 4/5 | 18/20 | Apr 15, 2009 Growler with a special thanks to tpd975. Pours a dark stained mahogany color with a thin tan head. Aromas are full and vibrant... nuts, chocolate, roasted malt, maybe a little dark fruit. Flavor is damn good. I didn’t see this coming in spite of the other ratings since most brown ales I’ve had are just not very good. This one drinks more like a porter... and a good one at that. Thick chocolate and fruit flavors mix with a silky mouthfeel and just a kiss of alcoholic warmth. Come on Cigar City... get with the program... Bottle and ship to PA!!!! djtimeless (171), Florida, USA

Flavors of cocoa, sweet toffee, roasted nuts and some hops. Rich and smooth. Great nutty brown ale. Tweety (343), Vancouver, Washington, USA

So very very smooth, with some just delicious nutty sweet notes. I never knew that a brown could be this good! hopscotch (5483), Vero Beach, Florida, USA
| 4.2 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 9/10 | 4/5 | 8/10 | 4/5 | 17/20 | Dec 12, 2008 Updated: Mar 9, 2009Bottle… RBSG 08… This beer rocks!... Pours very dark with burnt orange highlights (when held up to light) with a small, creamy, beige head. Good retention. The aroma is swimming in sweet, rich notes of toffee, toasted nuts and chocolate with a gentle note of buttery diacetyl (which compliments rather than contaminates). Medium to full-bodied and silky with soft carbonation. Malty, hearty and sweet, as it should be, but not cloyingly so - not by a long shot. Finishes malty and sweet with a hint of butterscotch. World class offering!
