A lot of bourbon, vanilla, caramel, and oak on the aroma, with some nuttiness coming out as it warms. The taste is dominated by a tannic oakiness, but a good amount of the nut brown character comes out on the finish. JCB (1759), Durham, North Carolina, USA

The appearance on this one was comparable with the base beer, but in most other areas I found it to be a drop-off. The nose was all barrel, with the multiple elements of the original being obscured too much. Nice mouthfeel, and you do get a bit more of the nut and choc in the taste, but it seems too one-dimensional by comparison. Odeed (1673), Bakersfield, California, USA

Hazel nut and oaky tannins on the nose. Light chocolate, roast, bourbon and hazelnut. I actually liked the regular version better. iowaherkeye (1855), Los Angeles, California, USA
| 3.3 | Aroma | Appearance | Flavor | Palate | Overall | | 7/10 | 4/5 | 7/10 | 3/5 | 12/20 | Sep 2, 2009 750mL bottle, 19/221 from daknole--thank you Dakine. Dark rubt with a one finger beige head, fair retention. The nose is bourbon. There is caramel as well as vanilla and even a hint of molasses. Dry alcoholic finish, bitterness @ a 2-3. Medium full body, moderate prickly carbonation. Way too bourbonated for me. durhambeer (1207), Durham, USA

Not surprisingly, big vanilla/bourbon/wood nose. Kind of like the other barrel aged beers Cigar City offers. Good if you really want to taste the barrel, but I think it obscures what is already a damn fine beer. Less nutty/roasty than the original. Still damn good. BrianK (190), Livingston, New Jersey, USA

Nice body harsh aggressive finish. Kinda like the base beer though... emacgee (1872), Chapel Hill, North Carolina, USA

The nose is tannic and oaky, big on the vanillins, earthy, sweet caramel malt. Flavor is tannic and oaky, vanilla, sweet caramel. Barrel covers up the nutty character.
