atch up rating from last night’s RIS bottle share. Mild coffee notes flavor this throughout, not overdone, just nicely accenting the bold stout body. Really, really well done.

Boise Imperial Stout Tasting. Pours a medium depth of brown, thin beige head. Espresso and mocha aroma, light roast. Rich espresso taste with more mocha notes. Also picked up a little bit of smoke... Still a mostly coffee forward and sweet experience overall.

22oz bottle thanks to mike. Pours out black topped with a tan head. Nose is roast malts coffee roast malts sweet chocolate vanila. Taste is more of the heavy coffee roast malts sweetness and a great vanilla bean.

Pours dark as Satan’s heart...this is pitch black. Outstanding head volume and lacing, world class retention. Rich world class nose loaded with vanilla and caramel over a base of espresso, cocoa and amazingly light roast (considering the color). Solid medium body that is so smooth it approaches creamy. World class carbonation / body balance that allows the complex flavors to shine. There is a nice effervescent middle and a finish that is prickly. The flavor profile is world class with a kicker. It is richly flavored, complex and in perfect balance. It begins with a moderately bitter grainy aspect of roast and espresso that quickly becomes sweet. Caramel, chocolate and vanilla explode on the pallet, then slowly fade into chocolate / cocoa over a softly bittered middle. Here espresso takes the lead as sweetness fades and becomes more like dark bakers chocolate. Light alcohol becomes evident during the finish, but rich flavors subdue any dryness. For an 11% ABV, this is quite an accomplishment. The finish is a slow fade of slightly bitter dark chocolate and espresso and subtle notes of vanilla. Possibly the best stout I’ve ever had. As it warms, caramel also emerges in the finish adding sweetness to the complex delicious finish.

22oz bomber shared by Dan. Poured black with a small creamy dark tan head. Aroma of strong espresso, booze, vanilla, dark malts, and a hint of caramel. Taste of sweet black cherries, black malts, dark chocolate, vanilla, and sweet dark fruit.

22-oz. bottle. The aroma feature milk chocolate, moderate vanilla, and mild earthy coffee (with a hint of green pepper). Very roasty on the initial sip with baker’s chocolate, bitter coffee, and a nice vanilla sweetness to finish. The body is probably the best attribute: silky smooth. A good and enjoyable beer, but hardly a top-50 imperial stout in my opinion.

Thick dark brown, a dense thin tan foam and viscous lacing. Nose is bristling with earthy roast, rusty vanilla sweetness and chewy raisin. Initial taste is a fairly soily coffee bitterness, fluffy enough sweetness and some odd choc dustings - like the stuff you only get from ’bubbled’ choc like Aero, but I’m more in a Milky Way Magic Stars vibe with this. A bit bloody/bitter/minerally in the middle but otherwise extremely pleasant sweet/coffee swirl here. Well strung carbonation and a thick and sticky mouthfeel. Finishes woody, leathery and molassessy - lingers long dark coffee choc abyss.
