COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Fergus Mor: the legendary king of Dal Riata was the founder of Scotland according to Medieval and Renaissance myth. Rulers of Scotland throughout its history have claimed descent from Fergus Mor. A fitting name for this, the first beer in the Campeador series, a barrel aged collaboration of Cigar City Brewing and Knightly Spirits. Fergus Mor is a blend of Big Sound Scotch Ale and Bolita Brown Ale, topped off with a wee bit of Imperial Stout and aged in a Buffalo Trace bourbon barrel. Limited release of 204 - 750ml bottles.

Wow, just wow. I got handed a snifter of this by Dr. Capone on my way ot the door of Capone’s during the Cigar City event, and had I not taken a piss, I may have missed it. Amazing. The pour was very deep black with dark brown head, about identical to the Brandy Huhaphu. The nose, my God that nose. Huge oaky vanilla bourbon, rich charred dark malt, prune, anise, heat, dark chocolate. Tastes very rich, amazingly complex, with a huge malt bill simultaneously met with that gigantic oaky bourbon/brandy and vanilla, and it all seamlessly melds together. Sure, it got hot late, but beers like this need to be hot. I thought the Brandy Hunaphu was tops for the event, but an glad this one got whipped out, and I’ll be on the lookout to score some more. Incredible.

Bottle from Knightly in Orlando,This beer was awesome a blend of three of their regulars aged in a bourbon barrel, poured a nice dark brown to black with a nice small tan head and smell was a tad of bourbon but not overwhelming. The taste was of malts, caramel, chocolate and was very smooth and creamy with the bourbon being not overpowering like most barrel beers but was just right, this is a good job by the CCB crew and well done.CHEERS!

UPDATED: SEP 15, 2009 Bottle… This beer rocks!… Very dark-brown ale with a small, fizzy, khaki head. The aroma is a lavish swirl of vanilla, milk chocolate, pouch tobacco, bourbon, caramel and a splash of espresso. Full-bodied and creamy with prickly carbonation. The flavor is a sweet, rich, malty blend of mocha, vanilla, gentle bourbon and light caramel. Bourbony, sweet warming finish. Fantastic, barrel-aged blend very reminiscent (to me) of Capricho Oscuro (Batch 1)!

UPDATED: SEP 25, 2010 Bottle 91 of 204. Big thanks to Dstructo for this bottle. The color is a dark, with a murky brown tint to it. Very low carbonation and no head when poured into my Cigar City snifter glass. The first initial whiff I got bourbon, maple, dark roasted nuts, and a little bit of spicy notes on the back end. Flavors are very stellar, they mask the ABV very well, considering that fact that it’s 10.5%. The mouth feel is pretty big, big but soft, and goes down extremely smooth, no alcohol burn whatsoever. Absolutely incredible.

Sample courtesy of Matt Capone. From a bomber. Pours a very dark brown cola with a medium sized beige head. Aroma of tootsie roll, a bourbon brandy blend, roasted malts, and peppers ? Taste is much the same as the aroma. Very nice.

Special thanks to SoLan for sharing it. Lord have mercy. Starting off - this is simply the best bourbon barrel aged beer I have ever had. I’ve had a couple of really good ones but this is the real deal. Big oaky bourbon jumps right out at you. This just has it. The bourbon tastes good. The oak tastes good. The chewy caramel tinged with oak tastes good. The tannins from the oak taste good.

sample from bottle at GABF on 9/26/09... very dark pour with a nice tan head... lovely bourbon barrel nose... big mouthfeel and dangerously smooth... some chocolate, vanilla, and a touch of caramel... big malty finish with some more bourbon notes... some chocolate, and alcohol on the back... great first sample at GABF from the FL Guild’s table...

UPDATED: JAN 21, 2010 Thanks retorp for the carbonation test of this beer. Pours dark brown with a small off-white head. Nose is bourbon, dark chocolate, body, love, chicory, nuts, and sweetness. Flavor is bourbon, chocolate, dark malt, some roast, some vanilla, some nuts, and some sweetness that rises like a siren song and asks for another glass. Medium bodied, complex as hell, seductive, no trace of alcohol, and sweet bourbony goodness. The only regret in drinking it is that it is gone.

750ml bottle. Thanks to Blake for picking these up for me and holding on to them. Pours a dark murky brown with a light beige head. Nose is big caramel, hazelnut and bourbon. Huge mouthfeel and body. Tons of rich oats and caramel with some light coffee roast and vanilla with a touch of chocolate finishes smooth with a hit of bourbon. This is a new favorite of mine. I wish I had more bottles! Age seems to have helped it from what others said.

Bottle. Pours a brown with a smallish head. Aroma hits with lots of bourbon, oak, caramel, vanilla, toffee and some light chocolate notes. Flavor is loaded with bourbon goodness, vanilla, caramel, fruit, chocolate...another fantastic CCB effort. Wow.
