Bottle from unknown beer lover at Flossmoor pre-DLD evening. This beer was tasty. The biggest influences for me were some vanilla plus a hint of booze. I felt like that was a nice blend of the run and bourbon. Warmed your belly on a cool, windy evening.

[bottle courtesy of cgarvieuk] Flat, deep brown pour. Sweet bourbon aroma, citrus hop and coconut. Don’t think I’ve had a beer with that kind of aroma before. Quite hoppy overall, with that lemony citrus mingling with the oaky vanilla and coconut on the finish. Some honey sweetness, too. Drank this as I was flying out of the door to head home – which is probably the worst way to sample something as complex as this [22042012]
3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Dunt (90) - Illinois, USA - MAY 6, 2012
Bottle provided by Alex for our Sunday tasting. Dark brown with a 1/2 fingers worth of yellow head. Nose is boozy, prominently bourbon. Malt and some lactose from the milk porter. Flavor is considerably less boozy, it’s actually rather smooth. Caramel, leather, bourbon, oak, and vanilla. Big mouthfeel, light booziness, decent carbonation, and a moderate finish. Interesting beer, think I like it more than either of the BA Big Sounds.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 phaleslu (3544) - Saint Louis, Missouri, USA - APR 30, 2012
Shared by TheAlum at Flossmoor Station’s pre-Dark Lord Day event, 2012. Thanks again, Adam! Pours a dark brown-amber color with a small tan ring for a head. Notes of chocolate, cream, vanilla, syrup, oak, cherries, and molasses. Medium-bodied, with low carbonation and a smooth mouthfeel. Bourbon is mild. Really nice blend.
3.8 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20 TheAlum (3299) - Lisle, Illinois, USA - APR 29, 2012
750 ml shared at Pre-DLD (Flossmoor, IL). Pours a rich deep brown black hue, brownish edges and deep haze. A frothy tannish head dies to a ering, laces small. Aromas are sweeter, offering toffee and mellow caramel, some peat, cherries, oak and vanilla. Some bourbon, sweetness pervades. Initial is more barrel forward, oak and vanilla, spirit and some toasty essence. Some caramel, toffee, gentle cocoa dustings. Essence of peat, oak, and sweetness. Cocoa, some more toffee, vanilla, toast. Gentle roast, some lactic creamy qualities show up a bit. Middle and backend show more spirit, creamy lactose element from Imp Milk Porter. Solid, touches of roast, toast, carmelization and sweetness linger. Solid, but it doesn’t beat uninfected Rurik.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 19/20 Benjii (2397) - Edinburgh, SCOTLAND - APR 22, 2012
In bottle, thanks Craig! Pours a black colour with a lacy tan head. A fantastic aroma of coconut, pineapple, liquorice, roasty malt, dark chocolate and a little lactose. Similar flavours with just a touch of lemon and a little mustiness also. The balance between roasty malt and sour mustiness is incredible. Lingering coconut and pineapple again. Mild carbonation with light CO2 prickle and an oily mouth-feel. Superb!

Bottle at Craig’s. Dark brown/black, thin tan head leaves very sparse lacing. Nice rich nose, slight milk sugars, bourbon notes, some raisin, warm alcohol. Nice rich palate, big bourbon notes, dark chocolate, really complex, slight port quality also. Lovely.
