A frothy tannish head dies to a ering, laces small. Aromas are sweeter, offering toffee and mellow caramel, some peat, cherries, oak and vanilla. Some bourbon, sweetness pervades. Initial is more barrel forward, oak and vanilla, spirit and some toasty essence. Some caramel, toffee, gentle cocoa dustings. Essence of peat, oak, and sweetness. Cocoa, some more toffee, vanilla, toast. Gentle roast, some lactic creamy qualities show up a bit. Middle and backend show more spirit, creamy lactose element from Imp Milk Porter. Solid, touches of roast, toast, carmelization and sweetness linger. Solid, but it doesn’t beat uninfected Rurik.

Draft at Churchkey. Very dark brown, brown edge head. Aroma of vanilla, coffee, brandy, cocoa. Taste is rich Irish coffee, vanilla, milk chocolate. Lovely.

Sampled at Churchkey during CBC week. Pours a watery, translucent black with zero head. Nose is all booze, fusel alcohol, some malt. Flavor is sweet, not as boozy as the nose makes you think, dark fruit, raisin, nail polish. Hot, sticky finish.

On draft at ChurchKey DC during the Craft Brewers Conference. Pours black with tan head. Whiskey notes dominate the aroma. Figs, raisins and plum flavors with vanilla and oak notes. Fabulous brew.

now i’ve tried all three campeadors .. . tan murky brown .. medium foam .. . a bit thin .. . mild roast and mushy fruit .. . easy enough but probably nicer fresh

Bottle shared at RBWG! Pours a dark brown from the bottle with thin tan head and light lacing. Aroma of dark fruits, sweet vanilla, molasses, and a hint of dark chocolate. Taste follows, big and complex, but not the best balance. Good stuff.

Bottle at RBWG 2013 Grand Tasting. Pours clear, red-brown with a creamy tan head. Dark fruits in the aroma. Big sweet flavor, faintly tangy dark fruits. Prunes, raisins, mellow cocoa, brown sugar. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warm finish with dark sugars, raisins, brown sugar, burnt toffee. Rich, hefty. Very tasty beer.

Rbwg! Dark chocolate brown pour off white head. Wood leather chocolate sweet dark malts. Boozy and you can really taste it. Good but not out of thus world.

Opaque brown beer, very thin tan head. Slightly viscous palate with very fine carbonation. Smooth dark malt with a little coffee underneath. Traces of wood and whisky. Unusual zingy fruits on top. Touch of mango and sherbet. Whisper of esters before a return to the dark malt minerals. Unusual. Enjoyed it.
