Rurik: the founder of the dynasty that bears his name which ruled Kievan Rus and later Muscovy until the 16th century. This land would later spawn the Muscovy Trading Company and become a base of trade between Russia and Britain. Two styles of beer comprise this blend, old ale and imperial stout. Both are of British origin with the later made famous by its exportation to the Russian Court. Rurik is the second beer in the Campeador series, a barrel-aged collaboration between Knightly Spirits and Cigar City Brewing. Limited release of 204 bottles.

750 ml bottle shared by Homer321 in the Hyatt hotel room over RBWG - thanks a ton, Sean! I have to admit, this was on my Wants list for so long I figured it was basically extinct and I’d never see it. So I took it off a few months back, and then - bam! - Homer whips this retired whale out like it was no big deal. Bottle number 77/204. Pours an opaque brown with a tan ring for a head. Notes of fudge, dark fruits, tobacco, a bit of teriyaki, earth, leather, and molasses. Medium-bodied, with a smooth, rich, slightly tangy, sweet mouthfeel and moderate carbonation (although I was surprised there was any left). Has held up pretty well. Very interesting stuff. Fun to try at this point.

Thanks Dchmela! You are such a pal!! Pours a soft black with big mocha head. This is all booze and malts, which is an awesome thing. Aromas of burnt caramel, burnt sugar, vinous, brandy, coffee, marshmallow. Flavours are sweet with some toasty sugars, warm booze. Fantastic beer.

Pours dark with a thick creamy foam head that laces my glass. The aroma is of dark fruit, mild vanilla, subtle roasted malts, booze, and a moderate intensity of carmel sweet malts. In the flavor I picked up on an unbalanced taste between the sweetness and the bitterness. I noticed sweet carmelized malts with an overwhelming bitter blend of booze and roasted dark malts. There was a subtle acidic fruity flavor that seems to put a wedge between the sweet and bitter taste but it came off as rather odd. Overall I enjoyed this brew and I’m glad the after taste does not linger much to make this a more drinkable brew.

Bomber shared by Steve, thanks! Pours a dark brown with a medium tan head. Nose is dark fruit, malt. Flavor is caramel, roast, dark fruits. Highly carbonated, which is strange and surprising. Reminded me some of BCBS, but certainly not as good overall.
