COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
Rurik: the founder of the dynasty that bears his name which ruled Kievan Rus and later Muscovy until the 16th century. This land would later spawn the Muscovy Trading Company and become a base of trade between Russia and Britain. Two styles of beer comprise this blend, old ale and imperial stout. Both are of British origin with the later made famous by its exportation to the Russian Court. Rurik is the second beer in the Campeador series, a barrel-aged collaboration between Knightly Spirits and Cigar City Brewing. Limited release of 204 bottles.

Rbwg! Super dark black pour brown head. Coconut wood raison and prunes. Deep malts scotch ale. Boozy warming. Rye earthyness? Good but I couldn’t drink a lot.

750 ml bottle. Looks good; black with sticky light beige lacing. Smells good too; malty and boozy. Tastes like it smells with a good mouthfeel. Good stuff.

Bottle at RBWG 2013 Grand Tasting. Pours black with a creamy tan head. Lightly tangy dark malts on the nose, some earth. Big sweet flavors some , tangy dark berries, bit of cocoa, light roast. Full bodied with fine carbonation, warming finish, dark sugars, some sugary chocolate. Not bad.

Black in color with a large khaki head. Strong acidity on the nose. Very sour, somewhat acetic, some dark fruit, smoke, coffee, and ash. Maybe a little bit of grass, too. The flavor is quite heavy on the vinegar notes. A ton of roasted malt, dark fruit, ash, grass, and light smoke. Intense dryness on the finish and quiet a high level of carbonation.

Bottle at Dadtoberfest. Pours deep brown with a beige head. Sweet malts and sweet booze, I’m guessing either brandy or rum (or both), lighter woody notes, dark chocolate and dark fruits. A touch too boozy and sweet to be really good.

Bottle shared at Jredmond’s tasting. Amazing. The aroma is sweet, licorice, chocolate, molasses. The appearance is deep black, big tan head. The flavor is just like the aroma, mostly sweet, chcolate, fruit, licorice, molasses. Medium/thick in body. The finish is sweet, light roast, pine needles. Excellent.

Bottle #171/204 at Dadtoberfest. Pours a deep black with a thin to medium sized tan head. Big sweet chocolate and malt, dark oxidized fruit, a touch boozy. Boozy right away, soft chocolate, malt, cocoa, a hint of roast, but overall overpowered by the alcohol. Cocoa, chocolate, yeast, a good bit of toast and roast. Tasty, but too boozy to drink in amounts larger than a 2-3 ounce sample.

Bottle courtesy of Paul. Pours a deep brownish body with thick brown lacing. Aroma is booze, wood, smoke and sweet maple. Mouthfeel is medium with notes of sweet chocolate (in your mouth, come get your cavities), molasses, toffee, booze, oak and light caramel.
