After today, they may move away from Mazzaro's coffee beans. Being claimed as the best beans in st pete, that is sad news. The batch I'm tasting uses these beans, and the flavor is great. Rich coffee smell and flavor. The color is a little reddish, surprising as I expected a darker brown. But standard dark amber of a brown ale. The body is crisp, but a bit thin. Very drinkable.

Have I said lately how much I love this brewery? Chocolate and coffee go excellent together and some how, Cigar City made it even better in this beer!

3.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle: Poured a medium brown color ale with a large light brown foamy head with average retention and not much lacing. Aroma of strong dry coffee notes with some roasted notes and floral coffee notes. Taste is also dominated by strong dry coffee notes with some floral undertones and lots of roasted notes. Body is light with good carbonation. Interesting but closer to drinking a cup of coffee than a beer.

Update: 12 oz can shared by Huhzubendah 7/10/14. Thanks Matt! Pours a beautiful dark brown with burgundy hues on glass when backlit. Lasting espresso head eventually fades to leave thick lacing. Aroma is espresso, chocolate, and roasted grain. Flavor is chocolate with mild espresso notes and a pleasant roasty porter quality. Delicious and sessionable.

At my place over an empty pool with group. Pours straight brown almost no head. Aroma is big green bell pepper, vegetable, spicy coffee. Taste is fluffy authentic coffee, soft malt. Very nice flavor.

3.9 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Pours a dark brown with a quickly dissipating off-white head. Huge coffee smell. Not too bitter. Coffee, caramel, and hints of vanilla and nuts. Medium body. I expected more body and creamier mouthfeel, but it’s a nice beer anyway.

12 oz bottle via Eric, thanks: Pours a deep brown hue with an initial good sized fizzy head and some spotty lace upon the snifter: The aroma has notes of chicory, coffee, roast, bittersweet mocha, leather, tobacco, and some vanilla. Herbal and grassy as well. The taste is actually less coffee forward than I expected with the chicory and vanilla more a noticeable component. Sure there is still some coffee, roast and earthy notes, faint of raisins here and there. The mouth feel is ashy and charred with dry finish. This is neat but I would like to since more espresso and less chicory since I am not a huge fan of the root.

Pours hazy brown with a white head that recedes to a film. Aroma of coffee, roasted malt, some fruity esters. Taste is crystal malt up front, medium body, coffee shows up in the finish along with herbal hops.
