12oz bottle. Poured a relatively clear ruby/reddish brown color with a small tan head. Aroma was bitter coffee notes, with a solid roasted malt character to it. Taste was bitter coffee, slightly sweet malt notes (like a standard brown ale). This was okay, but certainly not as exciting as I had hoped.

Bottle. A dirty brown color, almost looks like dirty river water. Smell is rich with malt and coffee. Drinks very easy and is filled with coffee. Sweet, but not too sweet. A very good brown ale if you like coffee. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

On tap at RnH. Dark cola color with a small tan head. Awesome espresso bean and strong coffee aroma exudes from the glass with hints of dark chocolate commingled. Initial flavor is all espresso beans followed by the sweetness and bitterness of bitter sweet chocolate. Impressive mouthfeel as a palatable bitterness lingers in the mouth. Truly enjoyable brown ale.

Great fresh espresso aroma wafts from a dark cola colored beer with a tan head. Tastes like a terrific cold brewed espresso but sweet dulce de leche caramel. So good.

Poured a thin 1 finger head that dissipates into a paper thin lining over the beer. Aroma of strong roasted coffee, sweet malts and a hint of dark chocolate. Taste follows the nose and then some. Freakin delicious! Coffee balances with malts well. Mouthfeel is right where I want it carbonation may be a little high but nothing crazy. Overall it’s an amazing coffee brown ale!

Bottle via smith4489 Ok, so I just poured about 2oz of this beer into a pint glass and it literally filled the rest of the glass with an enormous, rediculously large, obnoxious head that just won’t go away. I mean, it’s been sitting for like 5 minutes now and it’s still there. Wow. It wasn’t even an agressive pour either. So when the head dies down in about 10 more inures or so, I will finish the rating of this beer. Please be patient while we wait. ------- minutes go by (literally)-----& I attempt to pour the rest of the beer into the glass, I realize that this just isn’t gonna happen without creating excessive amounts of head. This beer is ridiculous. Is it purposely carbonated this much? Is this normal for the beer? If so, why? This is the most carbonated beer I have ever seen. Eventually, I get it all 12oz into a 16oz pint glass, but not without taking brakes every 3-4oz and letting the head die down. The entire process of pouring the beer into a glass took like 15 minutes, I shit you not. So now I’m ready to smell, taste and evaluate the beer. Pours a deep amber-brown, cloudy and I’ve already described the ordeal with the head. Aromas of coffee, but not just coffee, also toffee, caramel and some nice chocolate notes. I’m getting a back room poker game, filled with hazy cigar smoke and seedy card sharks. Nice aroma. The taste follows suit, but not as coffee forward as I was expecting. Smooth, roasty, but lacking something... Don’t know exactly what I’m looking for here, but there’s something missing. Can’t give this beer the high rating that everyone else has... It just doesn’t meet the high expectations that everyone else has set for it. Thanks Jason.

Bottle. Coffee, chocolate, vanilla and some light earthy/smoky aroma. Murky cola brown with a small tan head. Tastes like it smells.. chocolate, earthy ash, coffee, vanilla flavor. Light to medium body. Dry ashy / bitter finish.

(trade w/Changeup45) - 12oz bottle - Slightly tan foamy head. Body looks like Cola. Delicate aroma of ground coffee. Watery mouthfeel. Unmistakable flavor of ground up twigs..er I mean chicory. It’s sort of like an under ripe peach if you’ve never experienced chicory coffee. Brown ale comes out in the backbone, but only a bit. Glad I tried it. Glad I didn’t get a six-pack. :-)

Originally reviewed: 6/16/09. Poured from a 32oz. growler, received from the excellent trader, Kiefdog. Thanks, Kevin! This wasn’t the prettiest of beers right off. Pours a more ruby-brown with about a half inch of tan head on top. Retention was zilch, and there was no lacing whatsoever. That is definitely an expendable weakness though, because this beer was stellar on all other counts. This smelled like freshly ground coffee, chocolate, muffins, brownies, and finished with a roasted woodsy character. Wow. I want to dip my whole face in this beer. The mouthfeel is creamy and smooth, with just enough of a carbonation kick to let you know she’s fresh. Moderate amount of bubbles rising through. As I sip, my mouth is filled with everything I like about a good morning meal. Huge coffee presence that warms and soothes. Following this is a mild breadiness that finishes sweet and satisfying. There’s definite bitterness in here that is pleasant, but the sweetness and the coffee are kings. This is an excellent brown. I realize that it is limited in its release, but get some if you can.

Bottle with James, Andrew, and Maggi. Pours a coke brown with a little head. Aroma is straight day old coffee grinds. Taste is surprisingly sweet and syrupy, but really rounded. Hard to have this level of complexity in a brown ale.
