The humble gherkin. Usually we encounter this unassuming green fruit pickled or sliced and flung atop a salad. But the cucumber has so much more to offer us. It is a remarkably refreshing gourd with the power to cool a dry tongue and when just two sliced wheels are placed atop the eyes of a lounging lass in a stock photo ad for a spa the mythical cucumber has the magical ability to justify obscene spa service fees. Truly an amazing botanical gift to the world. We chose to employ the cucumber in a low gravity Saison to create a refreshing seasonal ale redolent with notes of honey, tropical fruit, lemon bitterness, and of course cucumbers. Brewed as a survival tool for the Florida Summer this cucumber creation features Citra and Sorachi Ace hops. So put some cucumber wheels on your eyes, lean back, relax and enjoy. Ahhhhhhh.

750 ml bottle poured a cloudy gold with a lasting white head. aromas of cucumber, straw and light yeast. Palate was light bodied and crisp with a dry finish. Flavors of cucumber, straw, light bread and a hint of spice with a crisp dry lingering cucumber finish.

Bottle - 750mL crowned from the Rare Beer Club. Cloudy gold pour with a tall, fluffy, white head. Aroma is dusty yeast, cucumber, fruit notes, grains and grass. Taste is strong yeast notes, fresh sliced cucumber, fresh fruit (I taste watermelon or another melon), soft malt notes and light grains. Body is light and very refreshing with a strong, effervescent carbonation. Finishes with more cucumber, assertive yeast notes, soft grains, malt notes, more melon and hints of other fruit. Tasty and would go well with schnitzel, in my opinion (since I get cucumber salad when I get schnitzel at the German restaurant).

Bottle from Knightly. Cucumbers might be my favorite vegetable while saison my favorite beer style so I was interested in trying this. The pour is a golden color with a really nice big fluffy long lasting white head. The aroma shows plenty of cucumber. A little funky yeast and straw notes join the scent. Cucumber certainly stands out in the flavor, but the body is light, dry, and crisp, with lively carbonation allowing it to go down nice and easy. Following the scent, the flavor has just enough funky yeast and straw notes to prevent it from being too cucumber dominant. Despite my affection for cucumbers and saisons, I didn’t think this would be a great beer. Wrong. It’s like a clean and refreshing base saison with cucumber added. Refreshing and tasty in the hot summer weather. I’m far from a Cigar City homer but I’ve got to take my hat off to them for this one.

Straw colored with fizzy white head. Smell is sweet with some cucumber. Taste is clean and crisp, hint of cucumber. Carbonation is crisp with slightly thin body. This beer is fine, but I wouldn’t seek it out again.

Great Nebraska Beer Fest. I was very interested in this beer, I mean cucumber isn’t all that strong and it can go one way or another. Well, somehow this beer made it strong. The aroma was all cucumber, fresh smelling and really just exciting. When I drink it its still all cucumber and a bit of a boring, nothing special base beer. I would like to see a better melding of beer and cucumber in the flavor. Extra points for trying something new, cool, and special yet tasty.

I found this to be a light and easy to drink. Cucumber is the main flavor and would be good on a hot summer day. Nothing amazing, yet a decent offering.

I grew up on cucumber and onions in vinegar and it smells just like that. OMG! It tastes just like fresh sliced cucumber. Overall it comes across just as planned and is very tasty. Well done Cigar City! Thanks to Dan for bringing it back from Tampa. I owe you one.

This poured a fizzy clear darker yellow color with a white head. Aroma was definite cucumbers, light spice notes and grain. Flavor was cucumber and melon, some yeast and not much else. Very mild overall. Not too great, but an interesting experiment.

Bottle at Capones after the Lost Abbey dinner. Poured a cloudy light gold with a little white head. Nose and taste are dominated by cucumber. A little funk and spice but big cucumber flavor. Interesting and somewhat refreshing.

Poured from a 750 ml bottle at at tasting at Weihenheizen’s. Pours a hazy copper with a white head of foam. Aroma is loaded with cucumber. Taste is huge cucumber again. Maybe some lemon zest. This is really just like a cucumber. Everything from the skin to the juicy, seedy center. Bottle provided on behalf of UncleRudy. Thank you. This beer was great.
