The humble gherkin. Usually we encounter this unassuming green fruit pickled or sliced and flung atop a salad. But the cucumber has so much more to offer us. It is a remarkably refreshing gourd with the power to cool a dry tongue and when just two sliced wheels are placed atop the eyes of a lounging lass in a stock photo ad for a spa the mythical cucumber has the magical ability to justify obscene spa service fees. Truly an amazing botanical gift to the world. We chose to employ the cucumber in a low gravity Saison to create a refreshing seasonal ale redolent with notes of honey, tropical fruit, lemon bitterness, and of course cucumbers. Brewed as a survival tool for the Florida Summer this cucumber creation features Citra and Sorachi Ace hops. So put some cucumber wheels on your eyes, lean back, relax and enjoy. Ahhhhhhh.

750 ml. Cloudy, golden body. Big white forthy head. Aroma of cucumber, grass, toasted grain. Hint of melon. The flavor is moderately sweet and lightly to moderately bitter, lightly acidic. It finishes lightly to moderately sweet, moderately bitter and lightly to moderately acidic. Dry, bitter finish, the bitterness seemingly arising from bitter cucumber rind. Medium body, watery texture turning sticky, lively carbonation. Some garden dirt tastes along with sweet cucumber pulp. You’ve got to like cucumber to like this beer because there’s a lot of it. In fact, too much of it for my tastes. Got tired of it. Applaud the effort at uniqueness, though.

Pretty good beer except the cuke goes a long way. Poured at a good temperature with a nice, billowy, foamy, off-white head that settles after a bit and a smidgen of lace. Color is a a hazy amber. Flavor’s like nose, cuke really dominates and offsets all the other qualities. Body and carbonation are good. Finish is like flavor, with the cuke wasn’t so assertive, not a repeater.

Knightly Spirits bottle. That sure is interesting. My impressions ran from honeydew to pickle but it did settle out to cucmber. I just kept thinking about Bath &Bodyworks cucmber soap. Definitiely unique but also definitely drinkable.

750 ml bottle via trade with smith4498 - Pours a hazy golden color with a two finger thick off white head. Very light lacing. Aroma is cucumber. What a surprise. Flavor is also cucumber with hints of honey and citrus. Finish is slightly sweet with the cuc flavor lingering. Very little bitterness. Medium body. A pleasant beer to sit on the front porch with while enjoy this warm Sept. afternoon. Thanks Jason.

Bottles from Tryst in Delray Beach, FL, Coffee District in Delray Beach, and Milam’s in Coral Gables A: Pours a hazy orange color with a small tight head. Retention is decent. S: Less cucumber than I expected, which turns out to be the optimal amount. Freshly sliced cucumber, light earthy yeast, and spices are kept to a minimum. Well balanced and certainly inviting T: Again, less cucumber than I anticipated, especially in the flavor. This beer is actually a classic saison (think Saison Dupont) with a refreshing touch of cucumber. MF: Smooth velvety feel to it, decent carbonation, and a slightly spicy/cucumber finish. Full in body and flavor for a 5% Saison O: I am not really a huge cucumber fan, but this one is awesome. On top of that, this beer is actually made to the style. Seek out.

Hats off to hopscotch for coming through with this beer. Man the head on this beer was amazing. It took a while to be drinkable, but when it subsided it was amazing. Beautiful cloudy yellow color with a thick white head. Smell is cucumbers and spices. Taste is totally cucumber and coriander. Some nice carbonation. But the overall beer was amazing with the floral aroma and cucumbers. Thanks Eric for allowing me me try this beer.

Bottle. Pours a slightly cloudy golden color with a nice fluffy head. The aroma just screams cucumber and gherkins! It’s a very different aroma than anything I have had before, well besides a cucumber salad. The taste is cucumber as well. The saison piece takes a little backseat to the vegetable notes. Overall, it’s a neat beer, very Shorts-ish of them but I’d be hard pressed to want to drink a whole bottle of this.

Bottle. Light straw gold pour with tons of frothy white head. Nose is light on funk but big on pickles. Taste follows through but maybe just because I was thinking pickles. Looks beautiful but really not very good otherwise.

Bottle. Preface this with the fact that I LOVE cucumbers. Pours a semi-cloudy golden color with white head. Aroma is a smack to the face of cucumber. Awesome. Taste is belgian yeast, banana, ester, clove, and loads of cucumber. I could drink this all day. Having looked up this and seeing that Cigar City does/did a cucumber IPA makes me want to get off my ass and get my homebrew crap out and recreate that.
