The Death Metal Rye Stout highlights Tampa’s standing as the Death Metal Capital of the World, or so they say. This marks the first beer we brewed on our pilot system.

Entering old rates. Draft @ CCB. Raising the horns of death metal to CCB for making this one. Noire foncée, col épais beige/moka. Présente un bouquet malté et chocolaté avec le seigle qui se fait bien présent et donne ce côté de grains, le tout garde une légère note de houblon. Bière épaisse avec le seigle qui donne un petit profile épicé, le tout reste consistant avec pas mal de chocolat/poudre de cacao et de malt grillé. Le tout a un profile léger de malt biscuité et une très fine pointe d’amertume citronné sur le fini.

Draft at Redlight. Thick black pour with a dark tan head. Spicy rye, roasty grain and chocolate aroma. Thick chocolate, rye bite and nice hop bitterness. An outstanding stout.

Growler courtesy of GoT, many thanks. Pours a dark brown to black with a quickly fading head. Aroma of chocolate, roasted malt, coffee and a touch of rye. The rye is definitely present in the taste with malty chocolate, coffee and a bit of tobacco. Nice dry finish. CCB once again makes a dynamite stout.

Growler, courtesy GoT. Thanks Jay for picking this up and sharing. This one pours a very dark brown to almost black in color and topped by a small tan colored head of foam that recedes quickly leaving just a thin line of lace on the glass. The aroma shows strong notes of roasted grain and barley, dark bitter cocoa, toasted caramel and bread, and the spicy notes of rye. Some coffee roast and piney hops offer balancing bitterness on the back end. The flavor follows with the dark cocoa, burnt caramel, and roasted grains as the base while toasted bread malts bring along a nice sweetness with the caramel. The caraway starts to come through while the rye imparts a spicy note to go with the clean grains. The rye really adds some nice depth while also keeping things on the drier side. Medium to full bodied on the palate with moderate carbonation that leads to a dry, roasty finish. This is a great use of rye and a very good stout overall. I would love to see this made again.

On draft at the brewery. Pours a dark brown to black with tan head. Aroma is sweet and malty with notes of coffee grounds, roast, chocolate, light toast. Flavor is also sweet and malty with similar notes of chocolate, roast, hints of dark ripe fruit and raisins. Medium to full body with a pleasing light roast finish. Nice offering from CCB.

Day old growler. Chocolate and roast nose with a rummy alcohol complement. Grainy warm alcohol flavors, with some ashy roastiness at the finish. A touch of astringency. Very dark brown-black with a rich dark brown head.

Beerlando (3342) - Orlando, Florida, USA - SEP 16, 2010
Draft at Redlight Redlight. The pour yields a dark mahogany to virtually black body with almost no head. There’s just a pencil lead thin line of brown at the far edge. Ultra-skinny snakes of lacing jut upwards and outwards on the glass. The aroma booms with darkly roasted grain, bitter cocoa, and burnt caramel, with perhaps a hint of coffee and the signature sharp carraway notes of rye. There’s a robust breadiness that strongly suggests pumpernickel, which proves to be a good, but not great match with the piny hops. Flavors follow suit, again giving loads of bitter cacao and blackened grain, with just the right amount of roasted caramel sweetness. Caraway is sharp, and rye imparts its "clean" grain effect. It’s not fruity in the least, though some tobacco notes add depth. Medium-full on the palate, this roasty beast is creamy and moderately carbonated up front, finishing with a semi-dry, more lively flurry. Overall, it’s a damn good stout. It’s one of the drier stouts that CCB has done to date, and I appreciate that. Right on par with the Soggy Loaf Pumpernickel Porter.

redlight (2318) - Orlando, Florida, USA - SEP 15, 2010
draft @ redlight redlight. Chocolate and coffee on the nose with bitter dark roasted malts. Pours black with a tan head. Bitter chocolate with sweet coffee and rich molasses with hints of tobacco and traces of pine. Silky smooth with a rich chocolatey spicey finish. Excellent!

On tap at CCB A: Pours a nice dark black with a small tan ring. Light retention and some spotty lace. S: Aromas of roasted malt, chocolate, and coffee. T: The rye is there in the flavor with a nice bold roast. Chocolate malt mostly with hints of deep roasted coffee. and a hint of char. M: Medium in body, smooth, long dry finish. D: Good another solid offering by CCB.

Smells awesome. Pours a deep brown, almost completely black. Smells very alcoholic and kind of fruity. bitter finish with a hint of nuts.
