3.7 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Thanks to Dixonian for sharing this bottle.
The beer pours a light orange-yellow color with a white head. The aroma has a hint of lemon in it, as well as some biscuit malt and maybe a little bit of cedar or other wood. The flavor is similar, with some subtle lemon notes coming through at the front. I also get some biscuit and toffee malt, as well as some Belgian yeast. The alcohol is well hidden. Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation. I tried the Grapefruit, Cedar and Lemon versions of this beer on the same night and this one was the most subtle in terms of both aroma and flavor. Now, to find some way to try the Orange version.

Pour at Scott’s saison tasting, pour out of bottle is hazy orange with white head, aroma brought lemon and lemon peel, some oak, vanilla, hints of grainy biscuit and bread, slight spice and pepper phenolic notes, much more balanced. Taste is lemon, grain with lots of wood and oak, some biscuit, spice, vanilla with a hint of caramel, finishing with even more oak, touch more bitter lemon.

3.1 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
Bottle at CBC’s First Birthday Party. Hauled back from FL by yours truly. Deep hazy yellow color with a light yellowish-white head. The nose is strong lemon wood indeed, plenty of sugar and soft sherbet too. The taste is strong malmalade and orange jam. Pretty spicy actually - notes of pepper, nutmeg and allspice. Some wood on the long finish. A bit hot. Medium body, soft carbonation. OK, but not CCB’s best!

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
On tap @ Copenhagen Beer Celebration. This is a light cloudy golden beer, with a small quickly sidesticking just off-white head. Yeasty and really floral aroma, melon zest and apples mainly. Its really lively carbonated, and has a soft oily texture. It’s on the sour side this one, woody also with yeast, pepper, flowers and flowerwater. Smelled more like a saison than it tasted. 11.05.2012

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Bottle: Poured a orange copper with white gushing head. Aroma was very citrus of orange, some coriander, and faint lemon. The taste seemed very sweet orange with some spice and loads of carbonation.

3.4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 13/20
750 ml bottle courtesy of a fishingnet trade. Thanks, Ben. First of the three versions I went after. Pours a rich deeper amber orange hue, healthy glow and haze, a darker overall hue with deeper amber colors, touch of dullness, with cakey offwhite head. Dies to a firm layer, laces small. Aromas are citrusy orange and lemons, touches of coriander, spice, and grass dance in. A crisp malty doughy quality with some sticky sweetness, ginger, more citrus peel elements, touches of woody earth, and that sticky element hang on. At times it jabs with some good elements, at times it sweet and muddled. Initial is medium bodied, perhaps a bit on the lighter side with a crisp orange and lemon element up front, lemon rind and a jab of tartness. Dry bready malts, straw, grass. Gentle yeasty life is dry, a bit spicy. Touches of sweetness intermix with jabs of dryness, some sticky dough, sweeter fruits, and a bit of sweeter breads and dough. Dryness, gentle coriander. An herbal coolness into the backend and finish, a bit of prickly carbonation, more rind up front with that sticky bit in the middle, back to a drier, woody finish with tapering citrus elements, coolness from the wood apparently? Dryness, tannins, and mellow spice. An odd beer that comes together in areas. I didn’t love the aroma and overall it’s a bit heavy on the ABV but gives almost some ashy, earthy elements in the finish. Ok, interesting and unique wood treatment. Didn’t love the smell but the citrus and wood jabs make it interesting, a pretty beer it was though.
