Draft… This beer rocks!… Pitch black with a mid-sized, creamy, beige head. Decent retention. The aroma is mostly dark chocolate, cocoa nibs and coffee. Full-bodied and super creamy with tingly carbonation. The flavor is chocolaty, acrid, burnt and bitter, but not more carbonic than I can handle. This baby’s bold, but it’s not brash. Lengthy, roasty, moderately bitter finish.

Entering old rates. Draft @ RedLight, Orlando, RBWG 2010, thanks Brent. Noire huile moteur, col moka.

Pours deep darkness. My pour ended up with an impressive mocha colored mild shake head. The aroma is moderate in strength with roast, chocolate, cedar and faint dark fruity goodness. I get a wafer thin layer of spicy hops deep in the background. The taste begins with an impressive silky mouthfeel ushering in deep velvety dark chocolate which is followed by dark roastiness to modestly burnt malts. The burnt malts may also be a light amount of dark roasted coffee. By midway a full cedar note joins in that isn’t too bright and compliments nicely and adds a hint of a dark toasted wheat bread sensation. I’m told this beer has hops. My senses rarely pick up on anything less than 70 IBUs. I’m pretty sure I’m getting a mild bite of hop bitterness coming from just a sense of spicy hops. The smooth dark chocolate, smooth cedar and mild burnt notes mask most of the hops for my palate. It ends with each note being sustained deep into the after taste. Twenty minutes later I was still tasting yummy rich dark chocolate and a sense of both cedar and dark roasted coffee. Wow!

Had on tap at Redlight Redlight during RBWG 2010. Chocolate, bitter roast, lots of good stuff going on here. Really glad they made it for them!

RBWG 2010. Pours an inky black body with a small wispy brown head. The nose is roasty, chocolaty, and on the sweeter side. Some light hops, coffee, and a touch of alcohol. The flavor is roasty, burnt, and smoky with a luscious dark chocolate finish and a touch of citrusy hops. Can’t say I got a whole lot of the wood character in this though. Medium to full bodied with light fizzy carbonation. NIce.

Draft. Pours a black roast y body with a tan head. Roast y malt, vanilla, light pepper tones and a mild vanilla sweetness. Hints of coffee and a wood y peat tones, mild chocolate malt. Nice.
