Forgotten Island is aged in Appleton rum barrels, originating from Jamaica. This distillery makes the oldest barrel-aged rum in the world. The barrel lends notes of vanilla, molasses, orange peel, cocoa, brown sugar, nutmeg, hazelnut, apricot and peach. This plethora of flavors and aromas from the rum barrels intermingles with banana, clove, cinnamon, fig, plum and brown sugar aromatics and flavors from the quadrupel, creating a crescendo of elegance in a long flavorful finale.

Really sweet and rummy, kinda like drinking a rum, you can tell its a quad from some of the estery flavors but itís not really my thing.

Bottle @ The Lets do a Chris O tasting. Pours brown with a small off white head. Nose is licorice and vanilla at first then you get some rum coming through. You also get a hint of alcohol and at 15% i suppose that is no surprise. Rum on the taste as well with a big dark fruit and dark sugar taste, wonderful.

750 ml bottle. Pours a dark red black color with a small white head. Super sweet oak, molasses, rum and fruit nose. The flavor is tobacco, rum, brown sugar, heat, oak, coconut. Super hot and sweet.

Flat and darkish brown, nae real head. Woooft of boozy dirty rum, Spicy cinnamon, sticky booziness. Scraping roastedness and a vibrant banana ooze and a wee pump of nutmeg. The booze from the barrell and quad are maybe a bit too much from me but glide down nicely towards a moreishly sweet, baked fruit finish.

Bottle at Craigís. Pours dark brown, small off-white head. Big prune/plum aroma, chocolate too. Sugar, cherries, fruitcake. Nice. Taste is wicked sweet, but balanced by the barreling. Donít normally like the sweeter beers, but liked that.

Bottle thanks to Jeff, Kevin, and Tony for sharing. Pours a cloudy dark brown with a very small that fades to a small ring. Aroma is chocolate, cherry cordials, and sweet candy. Taste is very sweet and rich. Like boozy cherry syrup. A little soy sauce and almond too. Decent but become fairly cloying at even at the end of a 4 oz pour.

Bottle: Pours very deep, muddled brown with no head... Just a lazy, khaki colored collar. Aroma is... Wow, very different! Super-sweet... Maybe a little over the top. But unlike anything Iíve smelled before. Big amaretto & cherry cordial notes, bittersweet chocolate, cherry, almond, & rumcake... Sweet, boozy, but what do you expect for a 15% ABV rum-barrel aged quad? Taste is also very sweet, almost candy-like. Cherry & tropical infused rumcake, drizzled with Disaronno, amaretto cream, molasses, & toffee. Finishing notes of brown sugar, rum, cream, honey, candied dates... Wow. This thing is all over the place. Itís lovely, but at the same time, a little cumbersome. Itís very good, but needs to be more refined. Certainly unique, unlike anything Iíve had before.

Bottle: The aroma consists of chocolate, soy sauce, cherry, sushi, and nuts. It pours a dark brown with some orange highlights and a small beige head. The flavor starts with chocolate, fruit, and brown sugar. The finish has more dark fruit/cherry, sugar, soy, metal, and a hint of roast. Itís full bodied with mild carbonation and a somewhat sticky mouthfeel. Overall, thereís a strange soy sauce and sushi characteristics that really seem weird...not really working for me.

750 ml bottle acquired from afterglow. Left in my car for weeks through the cold, still never froze. Shared with drewbeerme. Oy, weíre in for a beast, I think. Pours a deep dark copper red hue, gentle haze but that darkness is more from the beer itself, some fiery ruby glow at times in flashes. A small loose tannish head dies to nothing, minimal stick around and lacing overall. Aromas are sweet and sticky, caramel and toffee meet raisins, dried dark fruit and rum. Gentle vanilla, faint coconut, oak, sticky sweeter malts, Belgian candi sugar. A bit hot as it settles. Initial is a bit more inviting than the nose let on, thicker body with residual sugars, plum and raisins, dark fruit, coconut and rum. Some brown sugar, caramel and toffee. Belgian slant really makes the raisin and dark fruit element prominent, mixing liberally with the rum and warmth. Still, this isnít as hot as youíd expect. But it is a bit cumbersome and sweet overall. Interesting experiment that itís nearly impossible to drink without friends. A smaller glass will do you.
