Brewed and fermented in Puerto Rico, dry-hopped exclusively with Simcoe hops in the shipping container back to Tampa where it was canned at Cigar City Brewing. The voyage truly makes this a Caribbean-style India Pale Ale.

Draft at Alla Spina with Pat. Pours a light orange body with white head. Aroma is pale malt, caramel malt, and muted hop. Mouthfeel is medium to light with notes of orange, wheat, grass hop, spice, grain and bitter hop. Overall, pretty boring ipa with a strong malt base. Iíd like to try this at the source to ensure freshness, because I really get no Simcoe character at all.

Draft at craft ale house. Pours clear yellow with a medium sized white head, light lacing. The aroma is fairly floral, piney, very light citrus notes. The taste is dry bitter, some tropical fruit, really long lasting bitter finish.

Can. Pours a rusty orange color with a small head. Nose is all sweet citrus with hops and pine. A very pleasant nose. Taste is very bitter with deep pine and resin notes. Notes of tropical fruits as well but not like the nose. Finishes very bitterly immediately on the palate and lingers and lingers. Great IPA for hopheads. Nice Quaff Score 8 / 10

Pours a clear golden orange with a white head and strong hoppy, piney aroma. Taste is bitter up front, with hops, pine, resin, and tropical fruits -mango and grapefruit, leading to a big bitter, hoppy finish. Tasty, strong bitterness IPA

Tap. Moderate aromas of roasted grain for the malt, moderate to heavy pine and grapefruit for the hops, light soap for the yeast, with pepper and light dried fruit in the background. Head is average size, frothy, white with good lacing and is mostly diminishing. Color is clear light amber. Flavor starts slightly sweet and lightly to moderately acidic, then finishes lightly acidic and moderately to heavily bitter. Palate is light to medium, watery with a lively carbonation and a dry finish. Light, refreshing and full of IPA goodness.

12oz cans from CCB. Pours a mostly clear yellow-orange with a white head. Nose is a nice burst of simcoe- piney with hints of grapefruit and a nice caramel backbone to balance it out. Flavor is similar- nice caramel and malt backbone in front of this pine and grapefruit treat. Medium in body, a nice assertive bitterness that doesnít drag its nails in the finish.

A little more translucent than a JAi Alai. Slighty sticky lacing. Aroma was slightly dank with some sweeter fruit aroma of pineapple and mango. Flavor off the bat reminded of coconut water. Then the dry acidity of the hops. traditional Jai Alai finish. The coconut water really stood out to me. Pretty nice beer. Good balance overall.

From can to glass. Fluffy white head with good lacing. Light haze copper orange. Floral and pine hop aroma light cat pee and cracker malt. Cracker malty sweetness with dry Hoppy finish. Pine and cat pee finish. A lot like a west coast IPA with good balance. Good but I prefer jai alai.

The can is dated October 1, as much as I can tell. Sometimes these dates on CCB cans are quite smudged. The labels too are different from normal CCB cans in that they are adhesives on a blank silver can. The core series of canned beers have their labels dyed. If this shows that thereís a possibility of further experiments and one-offs coming out in cans, then Iím all for it. After pouring into a CCB snifter, the aroma is the first thing to hit the senses. Even at armís length, the beer has an amazing citrus aroma that wafts out as itís being poured. Closer inspection reveals aromas of grapefruit and some heavy pineapple. It smells almost sweet. The color is a crystal-clear copper-like orange with a mild white head and sticky lacing. The taste starts with some citrus pith and evolves into spicy, herbal hops notes backed up by a fairly evident malt backbone of bread and biscuit. The peppery hop notes linger on the palate for a while. I dare say thereís a hint of alcohol sharpness, even though this is not high in abv. Mouthfeel is moderate, and carbonation is fairly low. My reaction is to call this "Jai Alai went on vacation to Seattle," as opposed to a "Caribbean-style IPA," as the can suggests. Itís an interesting IPA and will appeal to those looking for a spicier entry from CCB. Overall, itís a delicious and solid IPA.
