3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20 Sean9689 (192) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - MAY 3, 2012
Shared by Alex (Masterski) and poured from 16oz CC growler into Night of the Living Ales glass. Apparently, this is Johnnie Walker Blue Label soaked oak chips, Marshal Zhukov, and local Florida hops. Sounds expensive!
A - Pours black with ultra-slim milk chocolate-colored head that vanishes very quickly. A slim right around the glass with a few bubbles here and there are evident, but nothing more.
S - Boozy, oak notes, dried dark fruit, chocolate.
T - Really really oak-forward, lots and lots of oak. Get the point? There’s a nice warm boozy character that adds to the oak and doesn’t make it over-the-top. There’s a nice bitter dark chocolate/hoppy finish.
M - Full bodied, little carbonation (which I prefer), creamy yet dry finish.
D - A pretty damn good RIS we have here. Only my second experience with Cigar City, and yet another good beer. I think this one is a one-off so I doubt I’ll ever have it again, but who knows.
4.4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20 Oakes (10191) - Gibsons, British Columbia, CANADA - APR 2, 2012
Super inky, mega black with a very dark brown head. Most stouts are lighter in colour than that head. The aroma is rich, like a DL or Expedition. Hoppy, bitter with super rich malt, chocolate, Cuban coffee on the palate. Molasses, too. For such an intense beer, this is balanced and quality.

750ml, counter pressure filled bottle, courtesy of JW77. wow, thanks so much JW! so this is one of my white-whale’s, can’t believe i get the chance to try it. bottle cracks open with quiet hiss and pours a stunning, syrupy, oil-slick, jet black that is capped by a beautiful, rusty brown, full bodied head that leaves rich, sticky, oily rings of lace. aroma is absolutely amazing with huge notes of dark chocolate fudge, bbq smoke, toasted oak, and black coffee backed by chocolate-covered tangerines, subtle pine hops, and dry, smokey whiskey with subtle hints of toffee, vanilla, and graham cracker as it warms. flavor is stunning, simply out of this world, with massive, bitter dark chocolate, burnt brownies, huge roasted espresso, charred cedar, and toffee candy up front that transitions beautifully into smokey whiskey, dry orange peel, sweet tangerines, spruce needles, and vanilla beans and finishes with an in-your-face dose of raw espresso beans, chocolate frappe, and dry oak. palate is typical cigar city imperial stout...huge, rich, milkshake-thick, and perfectly carbonated with a huge, dry, roasted, bittersweet finish. overall, one of the best imperial stouts i’ve ever had that’s quite possibly only 2nd to Hunahpu’s in my book. wow. this stuff rocks.
4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 17/20 crosamich (203) - Naples, Florida, USA - MAR 27, 2012
very thick with crazy lacing on the glass. Fudge chocolate, smoky, little grassy from wet hops but fantastic.

Draft @ CCB tasting room. Thanks to Daknole. Thick inky black viscous. Sophisticated smooth understated aroma. Super complex with a balance of cocoa, acidity, and inky mocha but none of these words express the true character of this incredibly smooth sensual characterful but easy and understated big beer . Awesome.

smells like a new shoe , and pours like straight up thick motor oil. The after taste is the best I have ever experienced. like a nice chocolate cover coffee ball.

growler, i think shared by Kan, this was either stored for a year or came from a keg and recently filled. it poured black tan head. Nose dark chocolate pine, citrus, smoke, flavors sweet and bitter coffee roast, whiskey and vanilla, smooth and complicated barrel notes, nuanced, great stuff although clearly not as bright and hoppy as a year ago.
3.7 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20 jrallen34 (3445) - Chicago, Illinois, USA - SEP 8, 2011
Growler... Black body, little to no head with some nice legs... The nose is a bit dead, has to warm up a lot to bring out anything more than some smooth Johnny, alcoholic oak with a little chocolate... This is super smooth but a touch charred, nice blue notes, no oak, nice chocolate notes, a touch tough to drink a lot of but fairly pleasant

Thanks Kan. The only attendance goer bringing a totally sweet beer to the GTMW. Dark brown black with a thin head. Rich malt coffee and chocolate roast aromas. Rich malts roasty chocolatey. Rich smooth nice beer. Not too hoppy at this point, but still really good. I could drink more of this one. 9/4/8/4/15

32 oz growler. From the original batch, i’m told, so not expecting Johnnie to be so hopped up anymore. Awesome to have a shot at this one, regardless. Inky brown with oily tan bubbles. Nose is rather soft chocolate, coffee, smoke, molasses and orange marmalade. Crazy thick, rich and sticky with a mellow buzz. Taste is Mandarin orange, candied grapefruit peel, fudge and caramel. Finishes with scotch, finally, subdued bitter grass and hints of spicy heat. Beautifully melded, yum yum.
