3.5 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 13/20
Can: moderate golden-yellow body, mostly hazy & translucent in the middle with a fluffy white head that reduces to a skin over the course of a few minutes. Aroma contains good heaps of mild grains, fresh yeast, lemon zest, faint citrus spritz, & a touch of grass. Inherent "bready" element, likely from the pale malts. Taste has notes of lemon zest, lemongrass, & semi-bitter citrus peel along with musty grass & floral hops atop a backbone of bread, pale malt, & grain. Very faint "cheesy" note in the back-end, likely from the malt. Aftertaste of faint grass, buttery yeast, lemon, & honey, with a kiss of sweetness & a sharp, clean finish. Seeing Cigar City go from something like Hunahpu or Marshal Zhukov to this is quite impressive. Very nice American take on the Helles.

2.9 AROMA 4/10 APPEARANCE 2/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 14/20
Tasted from can. Pours a pale slightly hazy yellow with a fluffy white head that quickly dissipates. Aroma of mostly grass and straw. Small citrus notes with maybe a hit of yeast/bread. Taste is moderately sweet with grass and grains. Some mild spices and yeast flavors. Minimal bitterness. Light to medium bodied with a crisp and sweet mouthfeel. Compared to american macro lagers this blows it out of the water. You donít get that skunky aftertaste. This is definitely a sessionable beer. Would be great on hot days. Goes down very smooth. Great for its style. ---Rated via Beer Buddy for iPhone

2.6 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 5/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 10/20
Can from Vinmonopolet in Valkendorfsgate, Bergen. Pours a slightly hazy yellow body with a small, short-lived white head. Aroma is pale malts, red fruits, green apples and hints of straw and cider. Taste is pale malts, marzipan, honey and hints of grains and straw. Light to medium body, slightly fizzy carbonation. Half-decent, but too sweet and not very exciting in its overall profile. Would choose many beers over this for session freshness.

3 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Pour on tap at GABF, clear yellow pour with white head, aroma brought some cracker, biscuit, bready notes, hints of slight grass, touch of grainy notes, pretty standard here. Taste is a mix of cracker, biscuit, spice and yeasty notes, slight grainy tones, finishing fairly clean, dry.

Other than a collaboration beer I had a few years ago that I donít remember the name of, this is my first CCB brew. And a good thing that itís a light lager, because itís a very difficult style to make really well. If a brewer can make a good, clean, vibrant hell or pils, thatís really saying something...not so much an imperial stout or double IPA, which suffer flaws much easier. And on top of all that, I am especially fond of German lagers and have visited the country many times to quench that thirst. So this seemed like an excellent brew to sorta pre-judge forthcoming CCB products that will be rolling out here in Colorado. The result? Well, itís somewhere in between disappointing and surprising. Itís not as bad as feared, but not as good as hoped. Itís kinda syrupy sweet, itís kinda fizzy, and itís not terribly clean. It just seems like not all that much love went into this...which is sad, because the best helles Iíve had have been mind-blowing. On the other hand, it *does* have some aromatic allure, a nice floral hop bouquet thatís thankfully not Americanized. In a blind tasting, you might indeed think it came from Germany. But in the end, itís just kind of...well...uninspired. Compared to a hundred random pale lagers from Germany, this would be middle-of-the-road...which is pretty good for a young American brewery, no doubt. Hopefully their ales will fare better.

3.4 AROMA 6/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 14/20
Quite excited to see some CC cans at the local beer store. Pours hazy orange with a white head that disappears pretty quickly. As expected, pretty malty, sweet. Get a hint of acetaldehyde, but not enough to destroy the overall integrity of the beer. Surprising amount of body for a session brew.
