The Humidor Series is a rotating offering of Cigar City Brewing beer aged on cedar. Cedar has a more subtle effect on beer than more traditional woods like oak. But, we think that once you taste it you’ll agree that cedar deserves a place alongside oak in the brewer’s wood-aging toolbox.

Handbottled. A slightly hazy deep red beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has strong notes of cedar wood as well as medium notes of caramel, and malt. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of cedar wood and medium notes of caramel, malt, and a bit of roasted malt, leading to a dry woody - cedar like finish. The body is light. Thanks a lot MadsBerg for sharing.

Hand bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of madsberg. Pours a clear orangey brown with a small, rough off-white head. Very spicy sweet chili-like aroma - again must be the cedar. Medium body, sweet caramel and nuts, a little low in carbonation. Again dominated by these amazingly interesting and exotic cedar accents. Some alcohol burn in the finsh. 161209

Hazy red - brown beer. Low carbonation. Surprising nose of fresh raspberry which carries over to the taste but only in the undertone. The taste on top is mild dark malt and strong spicy cedar with a distinct smoky note. Some nuts buried in here as well. The most cedar dominant beer I’ve had. So far!

Growler. Brown pour with a big cedar and coffee aroma. Flavor continues with roated malt, cedar wood and coffee. This beer has a nice mouthfeel as do most CCB offerings.

Growler… October ‘09 O-Town Throwdown!… Hazy, dark, caramel-colored ale with a small, frothy, beige head. The aroma is a malty, spicy blitz of caramel, mocha, tobacco and toasted nuts with more than insubstantial rumors of white and black pepper. Medium to full-bodied with modest carbonation. The flavor is malty and is mainly a reflection of the nose, but presents more of a bitter component than untreated Bolita. Possibly some of the residual sugar was filched by the cedar, but the tradeoff is welcomed as peppery essences resound in this version. The finish is moderately bitter, lightly tannic and then dry. Thanks to cmillward for sharing the growler!
