Tap at Cigar City. I like the smell of cedar. I like cedar in beer. However, I’m a little picky with it. I really enjoyed the Cedar IPA and the Cedar Imperial Stout. I’m not a huge fan of the Cedar Bolita, as of my first couple tastes. There’s just a little too much of the cedar in there and it overpowers the malts in the brown ale. Toned down just a bit, this would be great. For now, it is just a bit too woody, and that’s all I’m really getting. The Bolita is a great brown ale and the malts are being masked by the cedar.

Hazy red - brown beer. Low carbonation. Surprising nose of fresh raspberry which carries over to the taste but only in the undertone. The taste on top is mild dark malt and strong spicy cedar with a distinct smoky note. Some nuts buried in here as well. The most cedar dominant beer I’ve had. So far!

Entering old rates.

Handbottled. A slightly hazy deep red beer with a thin tan head. The aroma has strong notes of cedar wood as well as medium notes of caramel, and malt. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of cedar wood and medium notes of caramel, malt, and a bit of roasted malt, leading to a dry woody - cedar like finish. The body is light. Thanks a lot MadsBerg for sharing.

3.8 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 3/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 15/20
Hand bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of madsberg. Pours a clear orangey brown with a small, rough off-white head. Very spicy sweet chili-like aroma - again must be the cedar. Medium body, sweet caramel and nuts, a little low in carbonation. Again dominated by these amazingly interesting and exotic cedar accents. Some alcohol burn in the finsh. 161209

Had this on tap at the Kickback’s Gastro Pub in Jacksonville, FL for the CCB tasting night. Except this version was aged on cigar box cedar and Johnny Walker Blue Label oak chips. Pours a murky deep brown with a thin, yellow head. Retarded big aroma of cedar cigar box, whiskey spiciness. Bit of orange peel and dark chocolate too. Taste is similar with an extremely dry body. Light mouthfeel. Very interesting. Yum. Aftertaste is only weak point. Not much whiskey or barrel flavor. Lots of resiny, citrusy dry cedar.
