I squealed like a little girl when rustychiles put this one on the table -- many thanks! Pours reddish-orange initially and butterscotch toward the end of the bottle. Incredible cedar wood aroma -- really lives up to the Cigar City name, and seems to unify the flavor. Tastes of juicy citrus, pine, bitter hops, black and red peppercorns, and tobacco leaves. Excellent.

UPDATED: AUG 9, 2010 Second rating (original rating 9.28.2009) Aroma is much different than my initial observations. This batch smells like a cigar shop... cedar and cedar and a bit of the fruit I picked out my first go round. Flavor starts with a massive punch of cedar (Humidor Series is a brilliant name... itís like smelling and then drinking a cigar shop). The cedar yields to malt and then hops presences... malt is mostly a short biscuit and caramel jab and then the hops grass, citrus and light pine take it home. This is much more aggressive with the cedar than the last time I had this and it is much improved. (Original score: 7, 4, 8, 4, 17) Bottle with thanks to Matt. It has a murky apricot color to it and a massive sudsy head. As I draw my nose near, Iím struck by how different this is than my expectations. Smells like lemon and melons. Maybe even guavas. Flavor is also very fruit/sweet dominated. Lots of citrus even though it seems more like grapefuit now with some of that odd melon presence. This is good and very different than I had guessed.

750mL bottle, and congrats on the gold! Poured crisp, medium golden with a thick, well-retained cap of beige head. The aroma picked up earthy, pine, and dank floral notes laced with an excellent impression from the cedar (black pepper and tannins, a hint of brown sugar, and vanilla accented perfectly).. soft caramel malts were just what it needed for support.. excellent presentation! The flavor held up its end of the bargain.. opened with tangy cedar, a touch of vinegar, and black pepper, with soft caramel, bready notes, and a touch of grapefruit meat rolling onto the middle.. bitterness was still moderate despite the aging, carrying pine and light fruity character.. finished spicy with biscuity undertones. Medium-bodied and very well carbonated on the palate.. the cedar gave a very welcome and tasty complement to what Iím sure was a great underlying IPA.. Iíd love to drink more of this.

750mL bottles @ home and @ redlight. Pours a hazy coppery orange with a thick tan head, sheets of lacing. Huge peppery cedar nose melds with pine + citrus hops, some grapefruit and caramel edges as well. Taste is caramel, pepper, citrus cedar spicy tannins, sharp bitterness. Lush, drying. Real good. Cedar + hops go together nice.

Skyview Tasting 2.5. Courtesy of Skyview. Orange color with a thin head. Aroma of wood, spices and a box of cigars. Lots of black pepper and orange flavor. Light woodiness. The cedar blew away the fruitiness of the underlying beer, but this is really a delicious nectar.

750 ml bottle from fishingnet cracked in honor of itís GABF Gold Medal. Thanks, Ben! Pours a very nice hazy amber, gold and some darker bits mixing in. An offwhite head that is fairly big, dies to a solid head that laces very well down the sides. Aromas are citrusy hops, sweet caramel and pale malts with that bit of spice and further sweetness from the aging. A bit soapy, a touch of vanilla, florals. Initial is smoothed out, still good floral bitterness, pine, and some citrusy lemon and grapefruit. Booziness is pretty well integrated, sweet malts and the cedar is lighter, different. Some solid florals and bitteress sticks to the palate, a touch of spiciness, smoothed out vanilla. Very well integrated, and I like it because it is not syrupy and a sweet cloying mess like most other wood aged IPAs Iíve had. Different, An improvement on the base beer and fulfilling.

Picked up a 750 ml bottle from Total Wine and More in Tampa. Pours a hazy light orange amber colored brew with a rocky off-white head that has some nice retention and lacing. Aroma of soft cedar wood, a hint of grapefruit and light vanilla. Taste is mild bitter, some citrus, tangerine and plenty of cedar. Finish is smooth and soft with a lingering tangerine, some floral hop and cedar aftertaste. Outstanding treatment to the regular Jai Alai IPA. I regret not picking up a second bottle.

Bottle. Hazy apricot colored pour, very little carbonation and a interesting hoppy floral and somewhat medicinal aroma. Flavor was unique and complex with some grapefruit, definite cedar/wood and finished very dry. Really liked this one.
