Hazy amber color; generous head. The aroma is very spice, with strong incense, and with some piney resins (no fruits). Strong caramel and toffee flavor, within a correct body; smooth, overcarbonated mouthfeel; medium residual sweetness; very resiny, with a sharp spices and incense profile. Strong bitterness, leading to a long final.
Surely original, and interesting the first time, but excessive.

Bottle shared at CPK with Ed and Paul. Pourscloudy gold with a white head. Very sharp cedar character overall. Strongpine notes. Big sugar, some almost licorice notes or something. The anise. Strong cedar. Full bodied with fine to average carbonation. Sweet, sticky finish, notes of pine and grass, sharp grapefruit. Superb.

UPDATED: SEP 11, 2012 New rating: Cask at Pony Bar, NYC. Cedar aroma, woody, malty, hay, apples, grass, pear, some roasted notes, citrus. Such a change from the bottle version. Cedar flavor, fruity, hoppy, woody, some grass, hay, pine apple, grapes, pear. Old rating: 2.4. Bottle at CCB Day, Sätila 2012-07-07. Hazy golden beer with a small offwhite head. Cedar aroma. Way too much cedar. Hoppy and fruity. Cedar flavor, again way too much. Hoppy and fruity once you manage to get behind the massive wall of cedar. Why mess up a good beer!

Bottle, 75cl. A hazy, dark golden beer with a foamy, off-white head, two-finger thick. Lots of cedar on the nose. Not much left of the normal IPA aromas. Touch of something bretty too. Cedarish flavor too, some sugary maltyness and a nice bitterness. Spiced. Full-bodied, lightly warming and pleasantly carbonated. Long, cedarish, bitter finish with some spicyness. A really nice beer, but I miss the IPA aromas and flavors. They’re there, but too subdued. Wonderful cedar aroma and flavor though. Nice. 110917

Cloudy dark orange with a lasting off-white head. Aroma is sweet, caramel, cedar wood and rather hoppy - citrus. Flavor is quite sweet and rather bitter. Dry and rather bitter finish. I’ve never had a beer aged on cedar before. It was great and very different from oak aged beers. 290611

10/14/14/15/14/15

Pours a murky orange color with a white head. Cedar aroma is definitely there, but nowhere near as over the top as some cedar beers. Citrus and floral hops with a light pine. Spicy wood, vanilla, and sweet caramel malts. The flavor is relatively the same as the aroma. Cedar is prominent, but not overpowering. Citrus peel, pine bitterness, wood, hints of vanilla, and fairly sweet caramel and toffee malts.
