Tasted from bottle at Stone Oaquinox 2010. Malty. Dry. Amber color. Lightish. OK.

Draft. Dark brown pour with some light head. Cedar, nut, vanilla, and some other sweet malty notes. Feel like the beer is overtaken with the cedar a bit.

The aroma is very porter like with coffee, chocolate, burnt malt, wood, and oatmeal. The appearance is dark brown with a small head. The taste is like the aroma but with a burnt acidic taste at the end to go along with the oatmeal. The palate is smooth. Overall I like the concept here but itís not really a brown ale itís more like a porter. That was not the issue for me. I like the oats but the acidic, burnt thing ruined it for me.

Bottle thanks to Panatap. Pours a hazy brown, medium dark, thin frothy creamy head. Big cedar aroma, pickle brine, black pepper, odd. Flavor is straight pepper, cedar, weird beer, dill pickle, cedar. Flat bodied, thin, fluffy carb, odd.

Draft at rattle n hum during the cigar city event. Had this brown shortly after tasting the oatmeal raisin and although it doesnít really compare fairly to that itís still a solid beer. Probably my second favorite brown ale.

Had at RBWG 2010. You know, this could be better, but itís far from bad. The cedar mixed with the brown is subtle but still good. I was just expecting a little more out of it.

Bottle 75cl. @ cgarvieuk - Cigar City tasting.
Clear medium to dark brown amber color with a small to average, frothy - fizzy, good lacing, mostly diminishing, off-white head. Aroma is moderate to light heavy malty, roasted, caramel, moderate to heavy peppery, black pepper. Flavor is light heavy sweet and moderate bitter with a long duration, peppery. Body is medium, texture is oily to watery, carbonation is soft. [20100206]

dmac (3999) - Toms River, New Jersey, USA - MAR 5, 2010
Draft at the CCB event at Rattle n Hum. Poured a deep reddish/brown with a small light beige head. Aroma is chocolate, black pepper and slight wood. The body was very soft and subtle with just the slightest touch of carbonation. The flavor is a little more lively then the aroma with once again a big nod going towards chocolate followed by grains, pepper, oats and tobacco. Nice but the regular MOB ale is so good that this is actually a step down in my eyes.
