Hand-bottled. A pitch black beer with a thin dark brown head. The aroma has strong notes of cedar wood as well as medium notes of roasted malt, smoke, and soy sauce. The flavor is sweet with strong notes of cedar, roasted malt, smoke, as well as medium notes of soy sauce, roasted malt, and alcohol, leading to a very dry, roasted, cedar wood, and alcoholic finish. Thanks a lot MadsBerg for sharing.

Hand bottle 50 cl. Courtesy of madsberg. Pours a pitch black with a creamy brown head. Very spicy aroma - must be the cedar - with lots of burned malt and vanilla. Solid body, hard roasted malts, vanilla and pumpkin accents. Malt astringent finish. Amazing one. 161209

Bottle from The Bruery Show and Tell. Aroma was pepper and cedar. Poured a dark color with tan head. Taste was dark sweet fruits, chocolate, and cedar which really overpowered the beer in my opinion. Pallet was low to medium. Overall pretty good though. I like the regular version better.

Pour from bottle at SD Strong Ale fest 09. Thanks! Black pour. Chocolate, coffee, roasty malt, and wood (cedar). Intersting twist on a BA stout, and it works well.

Bottle. Absolutely outstanding beer. The best tasting beer with such a high alcohol content that I have had.

4.2 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Sampled on 12/4/2009. Bottle courtesy of John C. This Imperial Stout pours a dark black color from a 750ml bottle. Small to medium sized tan foamy head, nice retention. The aroma is chocolate, malt, cedar and wood. A medium to full bodied Imperial Stout. The malts are chocolate and coffee and roasted malts. The cedar flavors are prevalent and add a balance to the beer. Very smooth. Mouthfeel is full and round. Finish is clean and smooth. Aftertaste is slightly bitter.

750ml bottle shared at the Pizza Port Strong Ale Fest 2009, this black pour has a gorgeous aroma. The flavor is richy and chocolatey. The cedar complemented this beer well.

750ml, pours black with dark tan head. An exploding aroma of cedar, wet wood, evergreen - all over the nose but this mellowed nicely after airing out allowing some chocolate, dark fruit, and ash to meld nicely. Flavors of soy sauce, cedar, chocolate, raisin. Full bodied. tasty but tons of cedar- perhaps too much at times.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
750ml bottle courtesy of Andrew... Pours a pretty dense blackness with a thin tan head... Aroma of cedar, massively woody, and ash that combine not as cleanly with the stout characteristics. After warming, a few swirls yield some fruit and chocolate aspects.. Flavors bring it hard with woody cedar upfront and then immerses in the foundational base Zhukov. A little overbearing overall flavorwise but still maintained a smooth consistency. Decent mouthfeel. Likin it but maybe not as much as the normal for some reason.

4.5 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
UPDATED: DEC 9, 2009 1000th review! Figured I needed to make it something special, and since this was my favorite beer Iíve sampled from this insanely hyped brewery it seemed an appropriate choice. The beer pours a gorgeous deep black with a thick tan head that bubbles appetizingly. Aroma was earthy hops, big cedar, chocolate, very light coffee. Flavor was chocolate, cedar, roasted malt and dark fruit. This beer was simply fantastic, the cedar aging really comes out well, adding a whole new layer of complexity to the whole mix. Also itís super awesome that the beer shares a name with a WWF wrestler from my childhood.
