4 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 17/20
Draft at Brass Tap Trinity. Pours a near black with a dark tan head. Spotted lacing along the glass. Aroma has a good bit of cedar among the typical stout notes. Flavor is absolutely dominated by cedar. There a nice touches of roasty, smoky notes in the aftertaste but it’s hard to distinguish much else from all the cedar. Very tasty and unique, but probably best in small doses.

4 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Bottle shared by Andrew - thanks! Thick viscous black pour. Meat, soy, chocolate, roast, smoke. Meat drippings the way CIB wish they could incorporate. Somewhat sweet, roasty chocolate smoky finish. Viscous texture. I’m into this.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
750 mL bottle split at a tasting. Pours a thick super black with a fading oily brown head. This tastes like Kansas City. Super smoked barbecue smoked flavor. Delicious super thick body stout. Some tobacco notes to it, with some spice. Finishes really woody, with some more smoke. I don’t think I’ve ever had a beer quite like this. Incredible.

3.9 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 15/20
Draft... Pours new moon-black with a large, creamy, dark beige head. Fantastic retention. There is so very much going on in the aroma – it’s burnt, carbonic, loaded with espresso and dark chocolate, and a suggestion of coal smoke. Full-bodied and silky with soft carbonation. The flavor is a bold, in-your-face collection of blackstrap malt, pouch tobacco and coal smoke. Finishes bittersweet and robust.

3 AROMA 5/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 3/5 OVERALL 12/20
Bottle shared by Brian. Light smoke in the aroma and burnt malt flavor. Too much roasted character overwhelms other flavors. OK.

4.1 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
750 ml bottle into snifter, bottled on 11/21/2013. Pours dense pitch black color with a 2 finger dense dark tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Nice spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, smoke, cedar, tobacco, light char/molasses, light leather, light raisin/plum, and roast/smoke earthiness. Damn nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt, smoke, cedar, and light fruity yeast notes; with good strength. Taste of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, smoke, cedar, light char, tobacco, light char/molasses, light leather, light raisin/plum, and roast/smoke earthiness. Light roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roast, coffee, smoke, cedar, tobacco, light char/molasses, light raisin, light leather, and roast/smoke earthiness on the finish for a while. Damn nice complexity, robustness, and balance of dark/roasted malt, cedar, smoke, and light fruity ester flavors; with a good roasted malt bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a very creamy and lightly slick/chalky mouthfeel that is nice. Alcohol is well hidden with minimal warming present after the finish. Overall this is an excellent smoked imperial stout. All around great complexity and balance of dark/roasted malt, smoke, cedar, and light fruity yeast ester flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the big ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
