3.9 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 6/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
Half snifter pour of motor oil... deep dark murky motor oil... Jesus... half finger dark tan-red head. Super heavy nose... I can literally smell the weight... Healthy bourbon nose, but it may have been healthier while younger. Dark roasted malts mixed with light vanilla, dark chocolate, milk chocolate.... boozy alcohol. Flavor is.... I dunno... I just keep smelling it. Seriously, this nose is killer. I donít want it to end. Unfortunately it seems like the mouth and body have kinda fallen off a bit.. could be from the age of the bottle, but barrel presence isnít so much there. Definitely getting dark chocolate and rich roasted malts full of dark and light coffee, but not much chili of course. Anyway, I kinda wish I wouldíve opened this one a bit earlier.

Bottle poured into glass. Big thanks to DosBeerigos for sharing this gem! Opened right after the Whiskey Barrel treatment. Another stellar showing from the Cigar City crew. A good amount of bourbon still lingered both in the flavor and aroma. Hasnít seemed to mellow out at all. Another one that Iím super glad I was able to try.

4.5 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
750 ml waxed bottle courtesy of Andrew (nasty31). Huge thanks and props go to him!!
A: Pours just like the regular Hunahpu. Dark black body, thick in nature, with a thin khaki head forming on the pour. It recedes to a nice ring that follow down the glass leaving some splotchy lace here and there.
S: Smooth bourbon right away in the nose. Mild oak, some dark fruits and unsweetened chocolate are meshing well with the bourbon. Iím not really getting any of the spices, but there is a mild touch chilies.
T: Those nose was so balanced that I knew how good this was going to be even before it hit my lips. I was not disappointed. The bourbon is upfront but quickly smooths out some light roasted malts, chocolate and a touch of oak. The dark fruit flavor is back as well and is combined with the hint of chili spice to give the beer another layer of complexity. The finish is a sweet, decadent caramel and vanilla.
M: Thick and delicious. Itís very silky and smooth. The carbonation is on the lower end of the spectrum, but it works great with this beer.
O: Incredibly smooth and delicious. The base beer really stood up to the barrel and it didnít lose that typical thickness that comes with regular Hunahpu. Very complex and delicious. Huge thanks again to Nasty31 for the share.

Pours jet black with a paperthin dark brown head. Aroma of bourbon, really up front. Taste is mostly bourbon and oak, not much else can come thru. This is the most dominant spirit in the variants. still really good just not rum

750 ml bottle obtained by the STL tasting group. Excellent work, fellas. Pours an opaque dark cocoa brown with a small brown head that settles into a small ring that lasts all the way down. The aroma has great bourbon character, with vanilla, molasses, chocolate, oak, brown sugar, coconut, dark fruits, and chili pepper. The flavor hits all the same notes. The body is just a little bigger than what Iíd call medium- thinner than the others, but not by much- with a sweet, smooth mouthfeel and moderate carbonation. I canít lie, I love bourbon, I love bourbon barrel beers, and I love this one just as much as regular Hunahpuís.

Bottle at big tasting in STL, thanks boys. Pour is black. Aroma roasty and very fruity with hints of coconut and faint pepper. Also notes of vanilla and very smooth oak. Flavor as above with a very faint spice that kicks in more than with some other variants. Aroma better than flavor here.

[bottle at Danish Invasion tasting with cgarviuk and fonefan--thanks, fellas!]
Potent bourbony butterscotch oak aroma with some pumpernickel. Oily, opaque black under a ruddy, dark brown ring. Sweet pumpernickel flavour with chocolate and chocolate brownies. Slightly salty possibly from being highly hopped. Full body, sweet but clean finish.

3.8 AROMA 7/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 7/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 16/20
for me Brandy>Whisky>Rum>Bourbon Hunahpu. This is a nice treatment but doesnít quite compliment as much as the others. Vanilla, moderate boozy, sweet malty.

Vertical tasting of the straight Hunahpu - rum, whisky and bourbon barrel aged.
Hunahpu vintage 2011: pours pitch black with no head. Aromas of liquorice, vanilla, drop/anice and cinnamon on top of intense roaste malt and dark bittersweet choclate. Full full body, leaving a thick cover over the palate, all aromas coming back in the taste, finishing quite spicy and peppery, softly tinkling the back throat. A real treat. Certainly worth itís money. 4.6/5
Hunahpu Rum Barrel Aged 2011: much more peppery in the mouthfeel (added with the alcohol warmt of the rum). Nose has more berries and raisins. 3.9/5
Hunahpu Whisky Barrel Aged 2011: nose has almond and shoe polish, intensity is more subtle than the straigt one and rum one. Actually, I liked this the best when it comes to aroma. 4.5/5
Hunahpu Bourbon Barrel Aged 2011: (from notes): biggest wauw is the salty finish. 4.1/5
