RBWG 2013 Grand Tasting. Black with a thin tan head. Complex aroma. Chocolate, vanilla, leather, dark fruits. The flavor is all of the aroma with a great bourbon touch; not too much, not too little. Very well done.

Bottle "shared" at RBWG. Danish Pour. Black with a small tan head. Nose is sweet, chocolate, bourbon is a little toned down from what I Imagine it once was, vanilla, not much pepper/spice. Flavor is similar. I kinda feel like the heat from Hunahpu is what really makes it unique and its all but lost when its put in these potent liquor barrels. I liked this more than the whiskey barrel, but I still haven’t found one I like more than the original.

UPDATED: MAR 21, 2013 Bottle shared at RBWG! Pours an opaque black with fluffy brown head that dissipates to leave light lacing and a nice brown film on the glass. Aroma of sweet vanilla, dark chocolate, hint of bourbon booziness, roasted malts, and slight dark fruity esters. Taste follows, just a hint of spice, not as much as I was expecting, but the barrel aging probably allowed it to fall out. Thick and dense on the mouth, sticks to the back of your tongue. This was probably the best beer of RBWG, in my opinion.

Really balanced bourbon aging. Sweet chocolate and anise. Mild bourbon. Delicious.

Bottle at RBWG 2013 Grand Tasting. Pours oily black with a creamy, brown head. Lots of sugary dark malts on the nose. Dense chocolate. Big sweet flavor, lots of dark fruits, mellow alcohol, slight tang, cherries, raisins. Full bodied with fine carbonation. Warming finish with hefty cocoa, light roast, light earthy bitterness, chocolate cake. Incredibly rich, nicely nuanced.

Rbwg! Ultra black pour dark tan head. Big bourbon aroma and taste. Coconut chocolate but not much of the chili and cinnamon I love about regular hunahpu. Great beer but I want more pepper spice.

Bottle at RBWG. The barrel aging does not overpower the base beer. Chili’s and vanilla with a hint if oak and char. Exceptional.

Half snifter pour of motor oil... deep dark murky motor oil... Jesus... half finger dark tan-red head. Super heavy nose... I can literally smell the weight... Healthy bourbon nose, but it may have been healthier while younger. Dark roasted malts mixed with light vanilla, dark chocolate, milk chocolate.... boozy alcohol. Flavor is.... I dunno... I just keep smelling it. Seriously, this nose is killer. I don’t want it to end. Unfortunately it seems like the mouth and body have kinda fallen off a bit.. could be from the age of the bottle, but barrel presence isn’t so much there. Definitely getting dark chocolate and rich roasted malts full of dark and light coffee, but not much chili of course. Anyway, I kinda wish I would’ve opened this one a bit earlier.

Bottle poured into glass. Big thanks to DosBeerigos for sharing this gem! Opened right after the Whiskey Barrel treatment. Another stellar showing from the Cigar City crew. A good amount of bourbon still lingered both in the flavor and aroma. Hasn’t seemed to mellow out at all. Another one that I’m super glad I was able to try.
