Barrel-Aged Hunahpu’s tasting! Thanks to all the guys in the tasting group who helped make this happen.
The beer is, like all of the Hunahpu’s variants, profoundly dark. Ominous black with a thick, oily beige head. An awesome appearance for an imperial stout. Lacing stains the glass.
The aroma brings a heavy dose of bourbon, with mild hints of roast and chocolate. Smells good, but is less aggressive than I was expecting.
The flavor is predominantly bourbon, with light chocolate and roast.
Silky smooth feel with fairly low carbonation.
Overall, another delicious stout from Cigar City. Not the best bourbon barrel stout i have had, but still quite tasty. Very glad to have tried this.

Pours a breathtaking black with a thin head. Very light lacing. Well-balanced full-bodied scent, laced with a touch of lilac and bubblegum. Stunning barnyard palate, and I also get some toffee and marzipan. Elegant mouthfeel and hoppy finish.

From bottle. It pours jet black, with a thin dark tan head. The nose is sweet vanilla, coconut, chocolate, roasted malt, bourbon and wood. The taste is roasted malt, toasted coconut, chocolate, rich-roast coffee, bourbon, vanilla, oak, dark fruit, warming alcohol and toffee. Full body, fine carbonation and luxurious mouth-feel. Well balanced, smooth and tasty.

(Bottle) Pitch black with a small dark brown head. The aroma holds boatloads of bourbon (butter vanilla, woodshop and coconut) and roast (dusty cocoa, dark creamy chocolate, oily espresso and new asphalt) up front. Undertones of brown sugar, maple syrup, chilly, cinnamon, vanilla and dried fruits (prunes, figs and sweaty raisins). Resinous, earthy and some citric hops. Brutal and fat nose. The flavour is medium sweet, medium to heavily bitter and light to medium acidic with notes of fiery bourbon, aggressive black roast and brutal hops. Undertones of spices, dark fruits and brown sugar. The mouthfeel is oily, round and sticky with a light tart sting from the hops. Light carbonation. Lingering aftertaste of bitter cocoa, resinous hops and mild spices. Full bodied.

[bottle courtesy of cgarvieuk] Deep viscous black beer with very little head. Swirls about like the best single malt (albeit a black single malt). Aromas of coconut, and sweet malty bourbon. On the flavour – all kinds of things – sweet cocoa, chocolate, nuts, chipotle, oak. Smooth and thick. One to savour [22042012]
