18/II/2012 1Pt. 9.4Fl. Oz. bottle from De Hopduvel @ De Hopduvel - BB: n/a (2012-137) Thanks to BoBoChamp for sharing the bottle!

Dark brown soy sauce like fluid, no head, 2 or 3 bubbles, thick and oily. Aroma: vanilla, caramel, whiskey, alcohol, mocha to coffee, very powerful and overwhelming. MF: no carbon, full body, thick almost cloying texture. Taste: sweet caramel, vanilla, some tobacco, dark chocolate, mocha, little spicy. Aftertaste: mocha, coffee, sweet caramel, alcohol burning in the back of the throat. Pretty impressive stuff.

75cl, Bottled on 08/2011 (green wax), no mention of ABV, exclusive American brew, with cinnamon and chili peppers, thx to Secret Santa!, very complex Stout, roasted/sweet and slightly spicy/sour/fruity, not too heavy, very balanced, hazy, small head, top class!, yet very expensive!

Served along side the other variants, this was my favorite of the night by a long shot. Served in a Cigar City snifter because I can. Beer is black with a one finger tight brown head of tiny bubbles, frothy, lots of lacing, low carbonation, looks good. Aroma is very bourbon forward, roast, mild ash, some woodiness come through, mild chili in the background. Beer is medium to full in body that cuts out in the second half of the palate. The bourbon is all over this beer. The base finds places to pop up and say "HEY YOU ARE DRINKING A HUNAHPUS HERE", mild cinamon and mild chili, overall an excellent beer. My favorite. 750 ml bottle shared by the local ba group. Pours pitch black with a thick sticky reddish brown head. The nose is peppery, moderate cocoa, bourbon, vanilla, and spices. Everything works very well together with this. The flavor is thick malty goodness with moderate sweetness and some roast. The chocolate is a blend of creamy and dark versions. The bourbon adds a complexity not found in the original. Vanilla, pepper and spices round things out. Medium-full bodied and quite smooth. The barrel notes are well integrated with the base beer. As a side not, we had the 4 roses bourbon along side the beer to check aromas and flavor.

Entering old rates. Draft @ CCB Hunahpu release 2010.

bottle... oily black, very thin light tan ring... the aroma is a touch hot, bourbon, wood, char, sweet vanilla note opens as it warms... pretty flat and boring taste, almost devoid of malt, char and oak, weak watery bourbon finish

Sampled at the DC Ratebeer Gathering. 750ml bottle pours an oily, opaque black with some red, fading head. Big spicy, chili aroma, raisins, ancho chili, cherries, dark mexican chocolate, black pepper, vanilla, coconut. Flavor of brown sugar, molasses, raisins, chili peppers, tons of chocolate, dried cherries, malts, light coffee, cracked peppercorns. Full bodied finish although extremely smooth. I was very skeptical of this but it lived up to the hype.

Huge thanks to GT2 for this one! Black as night pour; looks like motor oil. Dark brown head. The nose holds chipotle pepper, mocha, cayenne, and chocolate. The flavor brings absolutely monstrous chocolate truffle, fudge brownie, molasses, and more of that light capsaicin spice. Also a touch of bitter roast in there. Decadent, smooth mouthfeel. Awesome.

750mL green wax 2011 release. Rating #3000 on this site. Pours an expected used motoroil jet black with Martian red bubbles ascending into quite the thick, black looking head. Decent retention. Looks hilarious but the same as almost all Zhukov interpretations. Tawny, cellary nose with cinnamon apple and baked apples. Pretty obvious acetaldehyde like the Virgin Oak Hunahpu. Taste is woody, very bitter, rich, earthy, acidic coffee, very muted peppers. Great oily mouthfeel- wildly thick. Rich and tart in the finish with a lot of bitterness to back. Pretty good.

Bottle shared by GT2. I’ve never had regular Hunahpu’s, so why not start with barrel aged version? Pours a rich inky, oily black. Thin dark coffee colored head. Good head retention and lacing. Aroma of roasted malts, rich chocolate, bourbon, vanilla. The taste is chocolate, roasted malts, bourbon, coffee, wood and peppery notes. Full bodied. Lingering spiciness. Very nice.
