Dark roasted malty and light herbal. Mild vanilla note. All swept in bourbon notes. Smooth and dark malty into a lingering and lasting finish.

UPDATED: APR 1, 2012 Growler… This beer rocks!… Pours tar black with a small, creamy, light brown head. Decent retention. Aroma-wise, the chocolate malt, black malt, bourbon, oak and subsequent vanilla and caramelized notes result in an aroma not unlike coconut macaroons (thanks for summing it all up, Cheez). Smells better than a freshly shaved and strawberry-douched vagina – I kid you not. Full-bodied and ultra velvety with subdued carbonation. The hearty, luxuriant flavor is a bittersweet mélange of vanilla, bourbon, mocha and cinnamon. Toward the end, I pick up chili flavor, but no heat. Wow. So complex, but so simple and decadent at the same time. Much like a sliver of a home baked pecan pie. The finish, much like the flavor, is hearty and rich with afterthoughts of vanilla and cinnamon and finally, at the wee end - heart-warming bitterness. Thanks to SoLan and Degarth for sharing this growler of world class beer! I wish this were bottled so more people could enjoy it.

A deep dark stout with a thin dark brown head. A super aroma of sweet chocolate, vanilla, alcohol, oaken barrel notes. In mouth, a classy imperial stout with loads of torrefied coffee, some bitter chocolate, wood, tons of taste and warming alcohol, all smooth and pleasant. On tap at Cigar City, May 22 2010.

Tap at Rattle N Hum. Pitch black pour with a thick sticky brown head. The nose is very peppery and a little bit spicy as well. Sticky with an intense cocoa flavour. Rich with a bit of bourbon vanillaish character. The pepper in here seems more intense than it does in the regular Hunapuh’s. Rich and chewy with a little bit of anise as it starts to warm up. Long sticky sweet/bitter cocoa finish. Lingering vanilla and a kiss of oaky tannins add quite a lot of complexity to the beer, but it’s quite a subtle treatment. I like this more than the regular.

Growler at Woodshop 5.0 (2/20/10): Pours an oily opaque black with a thin ring of khaki-colored head. Has a sweet, rich dark caramel malty nose with some smooth vanilla oaky bourbon and rum raisins. Starts with good fullness and rich dark caramel sweetness with some peppery spice and black licorice complexity before a warming sweet rich dark chocolate finish. Could use a little more body and sweetness to balance the warmth of the spice, but a nice beer regardless.
