4.7 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 10/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 19/20
Pitch black and completely opaque with a two finger, pillowy dark mocha head that very slowly settles into a thick, lasting cap/ring. Great retention, taking a while to settle with large splotches of soapy lacing clinging to the glass on the way down. Dark oily legs coat the glass.
Thereís a prominent barrel presence in the nose but thankfully it doesnít completely obliterate the characteristics of the base beer. Slight charred oak/wood and sweet and spicy brandy along with vanilla and a strong toasted coconut presence. Excellent brandy character in the nose. Not sweet like the apple brandy, but more of a spicy booziness yet doesnít smell just like fusel alcohol. Underneath, the elements of the base beer are still present. Subtle roast with robust dark malt notes. Hints of coffee and bitter dark chocolate along with oatmeal, smoke and toffee. Some vanilla bean but not sure if thatís from the barrel or hunah. Also, quite a bit of cinnamon and chili after it warms. Complex, inviting nose with great barrel character thatís not overly boozy.
The mouthfeel of this beer is perfect and I canít image how it could be improved. Thick and chewy luscious body thatís not oily or slick. Feels like a boozy chocolate shake with chilies and cinnamon. Probably best mouthfeel of any beer Iíve ever had. Again, thereís a really strong barrel presence but itís perfectly integrated into the awesomeness of Hunahpu. Subtle dry oak wih a touch of char along with silky vanilla bean, cinnamon, marshmallow and toasted coconut. The brandy and barrel flavors really add another dimension to the luscious, silky chocolate and robust, smokey malts while the strong cinnamon and chili presence compliments the spirit perfectly. Deceptively drinkable with prominent alcohol/spirit flavor but only has slight heat in the finish. Another incredible beer from CCB and probably the best Hunahpu variant yet.

Also didnít think Iíd ever get to try this Hunah variant. 2 ounce pour @ Hill Farmstead on Draft. Pitch black, oily, good alcohol legs and nice carbonation thatís resilient and hearty. This is far more fruity than I thought. Brandy is subdued and just comes across as booze or a fine wine at the finish. Hunan in barrels though, itís melded together perfectly. No alcohol burn, almost juicy with a fruit finish. Thick of course, oily finish, chocolate, raisins and wood. Fantastic.

@ Mega imperial stout tasting part 2.
Pours pure black, smell is very intense cinnamon and dark malts. Bitter. Taste is sharply bitter, very much roasted grains. Very boozy, too boozy to be good. Nice beer, but nothing more than íniceí to me

4.4 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 4/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 18/20
2013 bottle, pours a pitch black, minimal mocha colored head that vanishes quickly. Very oily in appearance and has a nice set of legs! Aromas are of brandy sweetness, couples with cocoa, tobacco and cinnamon spice. The brandy almost gives off a nice dark fruit aroma...cherries, blackberry and prune with these adjuncts. Nice. Taste is nicely balanced with the brandy barrel being prominent still. Loads of cocoa and tobacco upfront, with a nice medium bodied mouthfeel that allows the base beer to shine. As it warms the cinnamon steps up and makes itís presence felt. Light pepper heat warms but never becomes abrasive or prominent. Vanilla oak sweetness couples with dark fruit notes to provide a pretty balanced finish.

4.2 AROMA 8/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 8/10 PALATE 4/5 OVERALL 17/20
Tasted from draft. Pours black with a thick dark brown head. Very sweet aroma of brandy, caramel and some fruity notes. Taste is also quite sweet with mild bitterness. Definite brandy flavor with caramel, maple syrup, cinnamon and some dark fruits. Pretty tasty but I think I prefer the regular Hunahpu.

4.6 AROMA 9/10 APPEARANCE 5/5 TASTE 9/10 PALATE 5/5 OVERALL 18/20
Bottle @ New Years Tasting. Shared by me. Pours the blackest beer Iíve ever seen with a big brown head on top. Looks stunning. Aroma of cinnamon, brandy booze, molasses, loads of the base beer characters are present here. Great complexity going on in the aroma. Flavor is very sweet with loads of cinnamon, herbal touches, chocolate, malts, brandy and loads of base beer. The barrel ageing tweaked the regular Hunahpu in such a great way, without losing the base beer. This is top notch stuff right here!
