Handbottled. Sweet vanilla aroma. Black colour. Small dark brown head, reddish almost like copper. The flavour has some cinnamon, sweetness. Subtle warming feel, at first it seems like alcohol, but it is probably the peppers. The flavour is very sweet with a distinct roast barley note, but it is balanced OK by the alcohol and chilli. Perhaps a bit too many flavours added, but at least they are quite subtle. Very late coffee aftertaste.

Cask at redlight redlight. Special thanks to Wayne at Cigar City for hooking us up with it. Pours thick, dark, opaque, with visibly thick and oily legs. Man, does this beer have great legs. It is full of dark chocolate, loads of alcohol, hints of robust spices, with a definite bite. Powerful and yet very smooth for the high alcohol content. An extra great beer.

cask @ redlight redlight. Thanks to wayne from cigar city to bringing this to Slow Food Orlando event we hosted! Rich chocolate liqoure and coffee aromas, dark chocolate, rich dark malts on the nose. Pours opaque black with a brown head. Rich chocolate flavor, decadent dark malts, caramelized sugars, molasses, with hints of roasted peppers, with hints of spice. So smooth and oily on the palate. Definitely better as it warms.

Shared by an unnamed source. Interesting. Weird spice character. Spices add a level of drying characteristics. Very original concept. I would like to have seen more sweetness to compliment the spires. Mild chili flavor in the background.

UPDATED: AUG 6, 2009 3000, THREE THOUSAND RATINGS, WOW! WOW! WOW! After so many cross country trips, beer stores, brew pubs, bars, tastings, trades, release parties, and memories that encompasses this milestone it feels almost surreal. To think 3-0-0-0 times I scraped together notes, text messages, countless pads, notebooks, memories, MS word docs, scraps of paper, napkins, my hand, and excel documents to share my voice and opinion about this bitter sweet nectar we call beer. I feel a huge sense of accomplishment. I have gained so many friends, memories, and experiences in the world of beer that I am so grateful for. I wish I could thank everyone who has helped me to get here, there’s too many of you to name, but that’s to all of you that made this possible. Now for #3K, I’m proud to upload a new imperial stout rating. Thanks to Nelson and the Floridian (GUNHAVER, thanks man) that made this happen. Packaged in what looks like a medicine jar is a black nectar. Duct tape has been wrapped around the bottle more times than your typical tape spindle. Packed like a bombshell comes a partially filled "growler". Even with all the room to breathe there seems to be no damper on the quality of this black nectar. I slip away momentarily from the tasting that I’m attending to indulge. A black viscous liquid with a coffee tan head, quickly diminishing. A pure onslaught of aromas and flavors, this is intricate as hell. A spiced beer, a fall pumpkin treat, a chocolate imperial stout, it hardly matters, it’s fantastic. A dark chocolate kiss warped in a citrus peppered shell. Reminiscent of apple cinnamon pancakes and powdered sugar. Spicy chili pumpkin and chocolate truffles. Mother of god the aroma is flawless, what a treat. Full yet hardly flaunting the effervescent spicy, chocolate warming. Absolutely delicious! Thanks to Cigar City for an incredible treat. I really hope to have this again on a brisk October evening. Cheers!

Funky medicine bottle taped to death courtesy of Tertons. Pours dark brown with a light brown head. Smells roasty, dry, spicy, chocolatey. Tastes sweet, cinnamony, pumpkins, chocolate, cocoa. Excellent beer.

2 glasses at BBA Bolita Party- I am so lucky to live nearby the brewery. I can’t stop thinking about this one. It really is that good. I have had all the other top rated Imperial stouts, and this one DESTROYS them. If you can get this one, do it. Plan your next vacation around it. The texture is mind boggling, the flavor so uncannily balanced, the subtle tingle of the pepper heat . . . This beer is legendary. And Cigar City will will be as well. All their scores are totally legit and you need to drink the beers.

Tap at the brewery. This is is absolutely awesome. The smell is spicy cedar and peppers and awesome chocolate malts. Taste is really cool with the chocolate mixing with the coffee and other spices. Simply delicious.
