COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Mayan mythology, Hun Hunahpu was the father of the Mayan hero twins Hunahpu and Xbalanque. Hun Hunahpu, along with his brother Vucub Hunahpu, was tricked by the Dark Lords of the underworld and slain. Hun Hunahpu’s corpse morphed into a cacao tree, his head becoming a cacao pod, which in typically awesome mythology fashion, spit upon the hand of a young maiden named Xiquic who promptly became pregnant with the hero twins. The twins would ultimately grow up to avenge their father and uncle and defeat the Dark Lords and ascend the heavens to become the moon and sun. We brew Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout once a year and release it only at the brewery. We will continue to do so until the end of the cycle. Released on the second Saturday in March at the brewery.

Poured from a 750ml bottle from JDubFL. Sampled as part of a CCB tasting night at my house. Pours black with a fair amount of tan head. Nose has some chocolate and vanilla, but I could not get the peppers. Taste was similar to Marshal Zhukov, but without as much soy sauce taste as is prevalent there. I got some chocolate there, but not as much as I expected. It was decent, but the hype was a bit overblown.

Received this bottle in a trade -- thanks. Poured into a snifter. Beer is noticably thick as I pour, leaves legs on the sides of the glass. Beer is pitch black, black black. You can’t see through it at the corners to through the thinnest part of the beer. Its just not happening. Forms a brown head, overall thin of smallish to medium sized bubbles and it leaves some lacing on the glass - although I think the alcohol is hindering the lacing overall. The aroma is surprisingly spicy. I can get some alcohol, very slight, but I can definitely smell some chilis. This makes me nervous slightly but not too. The more I smell the more subtle characters of sweetness and a slight chocolatey bitterness come through. Smells good. Beer is full bodied in the mouth. There is not a spicy / chile flavor as I was expecting in the beer after the initial aroma. There is a lot of roast in the back of the palate and nice carbonation / connectivity on the palate. There is some sweetness up front and nice chocolate based / roast based bitterness on the trailing end. No aftertaste to note and drinkability is high. I enjoyed it. It was complicated and some of the complexity is lost by the size but overall a very good stout. Serving type: bottle

Went to the release event of this mystic beer and was asounded by the taste for an imperial stout. Extremely dark w/ a pleasant aroma of a Beligum stong ale. Great tastes of the chocolates along w/ vanillas. Imperial stouts are definitely my least favorite beers to drink, but if I had to drink one for the special occassion, this would be the one & only.

Second time having this on tap at the annual Hunu release party. 2011 version. Richly dark pour with a creamy brown head. Malty chocolate aroma with a touch of vanilla. Big and thick, makes the othere impy stouts we brought along for tastings seem thin. Yummy amounts of chocolate and spice. Wonderful chili flavors on the backend, with an ever so slight tingling that lets you know it’s there. Nice carbonation. A truly great beer.

The beer pours super dark black, hardly any brown highlights in the light. The head is also a very dark brown, however, sadly it only rises about half a inch and is gone right away. Light lacing. The aroma is on the lighter side but its vey complex, wish it was a little more robust. There is so much going on here, on the front roasted malts, almost smokey, then small notes of vanilla, and cocoa. The smoke might also be presenting as light ancho chiles. The taste is pretty good, lots going on as well. Lots of roasted malts on the front, cocoa nibs that are incredibly sweet with a hint of the chiles, very nice and unique. The finish is super sweet. Great to have a stout that isn’t dominated by coffee, there’s no coffee at all and its refreshing. The feel is nice and coating. Oveall, this is really good, a taste that keeps you guessing. Its really hard to get an exact point of something, keeps you guessing.

Bottle. Pours a black color with a longlasting tan head. Has a roasted malty chocolate and chili aroma with vanilla hints. Roasted malty bitter chocolate chili and vanilla flavor with hints of coffee. Has a roasted malty bitter chocolate finish with hints of chili, vanilla and coffee in the aftertaste.

Bottle 2011. Aroma has notes of chocolate, peppers, vanilla, cinnamon, chocolate, roasted malts and smoke. Pure black hue with a dark brown frothy head that mostly diminished and left little lace. Flavor is very sweet and bitter with a nice smokey spice. Palate is extremely full bodied and oily soft. Overall a nice Impy with a unique twist. Love the peppers and the cacao along with the vanilla. Probably the most viscous beer I’ve ever seen.

Tampa, Fl - on tap at the brewery tap room. Surprised they still had some left after the big event over the weekend. Asphalt black pour, copiously thick mocha colored head that leaves plenty of lacing on the edges of the snifter. Aroma is pungent and fresh and has hints of vanilla, burnt marshmallows and cinnamon, Flavor is abundant and complex, but not overwhelming, Pick up some of the peppers right off, but subtle and not overpowering. Some cinnamon makes its presence known along with some vanilla, espresso, dark bakers chocolate and some biscotti. Mouthfeel is thick, rich and creamy, Well worth the hype. Glad I got to try it without fighting a crowd - showing up at 11:00 on a Monday morning was the perfect time!

Thanks to Chalsk. Pours oily blak with dark brown head, nice lacing. Aroma is chocolate, dark fruit, roastyness and pepper. Taste is spicey with a sweet finish. The spiceyness works so well with the chocolate sweetness. Very smooth and easy to drink. excellent.
