COMMERCIAL DESCRIPTION
In Mayan mythology, Hun Hunahpu was the father of the Mayan hero twins Hunahpu and Xbalanque. Hun Hunahpu, along with his brother Vucub Hunahpu, was tricked by the Dark Lords of the underworld and slain. Hun Hunahpu’s corpse morphed into a cacao tree, his head becoming a cacao pod, which in typically awesome mythology fashion, spit upon the hand of a young maiden named Xiquic who promptly became pregnant with the hero twins. The twins would ultimately grow up to avenge their father and uncle and defeat the Dark Lords and ascend the heavens to become the moon and sun. We brew Hunahpu’s Imperial Stout once a year and release it only at the brewery. We will continue to do so until the end of the cycle. Released on the second Saturday in March at the brewery.

2012 bottle poured in a snifter, thanks to Steve. Whenever you get and share a bottle like this, its an experiance treasured. Other reviewers will nail the taste down, but I will note the chilies held up nicely for a 5 month old bottle. Amazing beer that I hope to enjoy again soon.

Bottle share thanks to drewface. Not sure it was worth lifting the couch and helping him move but whatever. Nose is spicey with some cinnamon. Pours a pitch black with a dark tan head. Taste is a cinnamon dominant slightly spicey taste. Pretty freaking awesome.

Yeah I gave it a 5 and realistically I can’t think of a reason NOT to give this beer a 5. Jet black pour with a small tan head. Aroma is incredible, cinnamon, vanilla, cocoa, subtle chile pepper, molasses, and caramel. Flavor is like a cinnamon roll with notes of chiles and cocoa. It’s so complex! The abv is completely hidden too. This beer really and truly deserves the reputation it has surrounding it, it was even better than I was hoping for! Now to just try and get another bottle...

2014 Bottle thanks to bartender matt at the tasting room. Pours dark black with a tan head. Smells of pepper and a lot of cinnamon. Taste is a cinnamon bomb. The spice is in the back end. So smooth though. 2011 and 2014 are the two best years. But you better love cinnamon.

I had the first bottling of this beer and it was fucking delightful. Full aroma of burnt caramel and chocolate with head colored the same. Tastes of fudge, more burnt sugar, coffee, balancing booze. What a winner.

Taste at Beercraft. Pours a thick black color without much head. Lots of cocoa flavor with a hint of sweetness. Warming sensation.

UPDATED: MAR 27, 2014 Bottle from weezel in a trade. bottle to glass. Pours a rich dark black with a creamy brown head. Leaves a small lace ring around the glass. Aroma of chocolate, and spice (cinnamon?). Some chili also. Taste is sweeter than I expected. Chocolate, sweet malt, and that cinnamon spice. I fell a bit of heat. Extremely creamy mouthfeel. Perfectly carbonated.

2013 bottle to snifter. Pours thick and black. Aroma of peppers and vegetables. Pepper and sweetness in the flavor. A little spice as it gets very warm. Smooth carbonation. A little velvet. Very sticky. Underwhelming.

Pours jet black with a nice dark brown head. Huge lacing. Woody and peppery vegetal aroma. Flavor is very complex - mild cinnamon, very slight spiciness, rich chocolate flavors. It all fades into a great aftertaste that one would expect from a great imperial stout. Overall fantastic stuff - Abraxas is a bit better in my opinion but only marginally so

Sample at Ale Alpharetta. Pours black, with a minimal, dark head. The aroma is vanilla, cinnamon, some roasted peppers, and dark chocolate. The flavor is very sweet, with just a little bitterness, and a good, mellow, well-balanced spiciness. Very heavy body, thick, smooth, and creamy. Overall, this is a nicely done, flavorful, thick, and reasonably spicy stout.
